What can Scooby Doo teach you about your hair?

  • Posted on November 18, 2009 at 1:37 pm

What can you learn from Scooby Doo about your hair and hair care.  Well not actually Scooby but one of the characters on the cartoon show Scooby Doo actually taught us all a ton of seriously valuable information about her hair and our hair.  Not only was she funny to watch and fashion obsessed, but Dafney was also a great teacher on proper skin, hair and fashion care and how to upkeep ourselves.   She even taught us how our hair can help guide us to safety if we are ever stranded in a dessert, in the woods, on a mountain, etc…

You don’t believe me, try this for example.

Dafney would always end up getting trapped or wet.  She would always then complain about it ruining her shoes or her hair.  With certain types of water or swamps, etc…. she would even comment that it would takes weeks or be impossible to get out or fix.  This should have been a huge warning to everyone watching that if you are going into chlorinated water, chemically treated water, salt water, etc…. you need to do something to help protect your hair and something to help clean all of the bad stuff back out of it.

In another episode or one of the Scooby Doo movies, Scooby and the gang were lost somewhere.  When they couldn’t think of a way to get out or find their way to safety, our great and fashionable friend Dafney decided to help them and said “Let me check my hair”.  Of course Velma gave a snide comment, but when in doubt, Dafney’s hair actually saved them.

Because Dafney knew which way the wind blew in that particular area, all she had to do was find somewhere where her hair could catch the wind and when it blew, her hair pointed in that direction.

Suppose you are lost or stranded, but you knew which way you were heading or which direction water or supplies were in.  You also looked before you left at which way the wind currents were blowing or which direction the wind blows in that area, all you need to do is use your hair by watching which direction it blows in or even grab a strand and let the wind carry it and you can then get a good estimate on which way you need to travel towards safety.  This isn’t 100% perfect advice or accurate, but then again, it may be your best shot.  Fred would argue to look at the moss growing on the tree to judge which way north is,  But if there are no trees and you are lost in the dessert, Dafney’s hair trick may be a much better option.

Anyways, Scooby Doo may have made you laugh but Dafney taught you not only how to look good and to take care of your hair, but she also taught us that you hair can actually help to save your life so the next time you don’t take care of your hair, remember that one day you may need your hair to help take care of you and if you don’t treat it well now, it may not be there to help save your life.

It’s funny what you can actually learn from these cartoons and if you watch Scooby Doo and pay attention to Dafney, you’ll be amazed with some of the amazing fashion and beauty tips she actually gives out.  Scooby is awesome and thank you Dafney for helping us all learn how to properly take care of our hair and how our hair can save our lives.

Do you need a professional Lip Balm that actually works?

  • Posted on November 16, 2009 at 9:19 am

Then you need to consult a physician.  Just Kidding, but not really.  Lip Balms and products for chapped lips and severly chapped lips are just like any other skin care or hair care product where most of them or at least the higher end ones are designed for people with specific lip or skin issues.  I know that some people prefer natural cures and moisturizers while other people like the store bought and drugstore regular lip balms that come in the cherry or normal flavored lip  balm, but in reality you should consider a few things before you buy and begin using a lip balm this winter.

1.  Is your skin sensitive to any flavors or scents or even the dyes they use to color the lip balm?  If your skin is sensitive to dyes and colors and everything else, then you may want to think twice about which lip balm you want to use this winter.   By using a lip balm that has colors and flavors that you might be allergic too, you could actually possibly be doing more damage to your lips and possibly slow down the healing process instead of actually helping your lips heal.  They might smell and look great, but at the same time, wouldn’t you rather have something that helps you actually get better instead of something that gives you temporary relief and possibly makes your lips take longer to heal?

2.  Is the lip balm you are using the right kind of lip balm for your lips.  The thing is that most of the lip balms you find in drugstores are actually designed for people with all skin types and lip issues, but in reality, they probably all work similar until you start to look at the higher end lip balms where you can start to find lip balms with better ingredients that are designed to help heal, instead of smell or color your lips.  I always recommend going with a better ingredient than something that smells or is flavored because if my lips get chapped, then I just want them healed and could care less about my lip balm tasting great.

It is important to remember that if you are buying or need to buy lip balm this winter that you buy one that works with your skin to help heal your lips and not just taste good or look pretty.  If you use a lip balm that helps to heal your skin, you can start using a color, etc… even faster without having any or as much pain as you would if you use a lower end lip balm that only gives you temporary relief.   Anyways, I hate chapped lips and in the winter I completely recommend that everyone uses a lip balm that is more high end and actually helps to cure and heal your chapped lips.

Did you go straight or curly this fall?

  • Posted on November 15, 2009 at 10:14 pm

So it looks like everyone went straight and curly this fall with their hair styles.  Hair Irons sold like crazy and so did straight and curly hair shampoos.  The one thing that a lot of people are finding out though is that even though they started to use new products and styling and heated tools on their hair, they are also finding out the damage that these tools can cause to their hair and now are starting to try hair masks, hair oils and hair treatments so I wanted to go over a few types of products to help you with your dry and damaged hair from tools and styling products from curling and straightening your hair this last fall.

The first type of product you might want to try are oil treatements.

Women have been using hair oils and oil treatments on their hair for years because they are not only easy to use, but they help to give you almost instant results and instantly better looking and feeling hair.  The thing though is that hair oils and oil treatments are usually kind of hard to use and take a while.  Especially hot oil treatments for your hair.  However, thanks to the MoroccanOil company we now have the MoroccanOil Oil Treatment which doesn’t need heated up and can easily be used to help repair the damage done to your hair but also help to make it look a lot healthier and like your hair was naturally straight or curly and with the argan oils shine enhancer, your hair might even look better than natural.

Hair Masks are also an amazing way to not only help to recharge your hairs natural look and feel, but also help to repair the damage and harm done to your hair from all of the heated tools and appliances.  Some of the most popular hair masks come from L’oreal and Kerastase, but a brand new hair mask that is also becoming really popular because it is made for all hair types is the hair mask from It’s a Ten.  If your hair isn’t damaged from heat, but is just seriously dry, you may also want to try the MoroccanOil Intense Hydrating Mask which is also made for all hair types and works great for seriously dry and damaged hair.  Hair Masks are also popular not only because they work and they are easy to use, but if you buy a good one it can also help to give you almost instant results and help your hair start to look healthier and better after the first time you use the hair mask.

If you decided to curl or straighten your hair this fall to keep up with fashion trends and to keep up with styles, you should definitely look at buying a hair oil treatment or trying to use a hair mask, especially before winter comes and new hair trends and new hair styles start to make their way into the salons and styles.  You will also want to repair your hair before the cold winter air starts to effect it and cause even more damage.

Is your hair a lie detector test or your friend?

  • Posted on November 12, 2009 at 10:58 pm

It’s kind of crazy but if the State or the courts really wanted a lie detector test that could actually tell the truth, they would try using your hair.  I was thinking that in reality, anyone could probably cheat a lie detector but if they really wanted to get the truth from someone they would ask that person’s hair.

That sounds seriously crazy and like I am probably insane, but if you think about it, drug testing agencies starting testing hair instead of urine, your hair can carry traces of cigarettes and alcohol and if it is tassled in the morning, chances are you did not make it home or something is wrong.  People can put on a front and lie to your face, however your hair does not and cannot lie to you which is something that I completely depend on.  Anyways, you cannot always depend on people to tell the truth but their hair and skin do not lie.  If they went our or had a cigarette the night before and pretended they did not, you can tell because you can pick it up in their hair just like if they slept at home and were feeling fresh, you would be able to tell in their hair as well.

If we wanted everyone to tell the truth about things, we shouldn’t depend on a machine that people can cheat, we should ask something that cannot lie, we should ask their hair.  It sounds insane but your hair cannot lie and if you can run an actual test and get a real result, then you should test their hair and not their voice.

Is your shampoo right for you?

  • Posted on November 11, 2009 at 9:14 am

I used to just buy a shampoo because I liked the way it smelled or the way it looked or because of what it would say it would do on the bottle, even though I didn’t actually need a shampoo that would do what it was designed to do.  I loved the results the shampoos that I would buy would do for my hair, but until I actually sat down and realized that I was buying products that I liked, but they weren’t actually designed for me, my hair type or even for my hair issues.  Although I didn’t want to give up my shampoo because I loved it and was used to it, I did end up buying a different kind that my Stylist recommended that was designed specifically for my hair type.

I never really thought there would be a huge difference in shampoos and always thought that the shampoo I liked was great because it worked on my hair, but until I finally listened to my Stylist and actually started to try products that were designed for people with my hair type and hair issues, I never really understood how wrong I was about my shampoo working.

When I switched to a new shampoo that was designed for my hair type, I almost instantly started to see an improvement in my hair quality and the life of it.  I thought that it had looked great before, but when I used products that actually worked with and for my hair instead of products that I just liked, I got to see my hair completely come to life and look even better.

Anyways, a ton of people by shampoos because they think that the shampoo smells nice or is possibly for their hair type or hair issue, but in reality, you want to give up that brand and ask your stylist what your actual hair type is and hair issues are.  I thought I knew what my hair type and hair issues were, but I decided to ask my Stylist what she thought and when she told me that I was wrong about my hair type and the shampoo I was using, she recommended a couple of brands so I decided to sign online right after and buy the new shampoos that she recommended.  Anyways, you should definitely try to ask your Stylist about your hair and have him or her recommend a new shampoo or type of shampoo that will work with your hair.  You may not want to give away or give up your shampoo, but when you try one that is designed for your hair and that works with your hair, you will seriously thank me and your Stylist for the recommendation and your new hair.

The most important product to bring when you travel.

Holy Mud Dead Sea Mud Mask

Holy Mud Dead Sea Mud Mask

What is the most important thing to bring when you travel?  A deep cleaning face mask.

I have been traveling since about 4 am and not only was I sweating and using public restrooms at the airport and just feeling completely dirty, but after I had a million meetings and a serious lack of food I went back to my hotel and felt dirty, tired and completely worn out.   I am sure you have all felt that way after you had a trip or were on a trip and all you want to do is clean up and go to bed, but unfortunately you still have a ton of work to do since you were on a plane all day.

Anyways, thank gosh I remembered to pack smart because even though I am tired and cranky and wanting to be in my own bed back home, I do have one thing that is almost an instant relief and make you feel better product, I have a deep cleaning face mask that I can use and within a few minutes feel a million times better and completely refreshed.

It sounds ridiculous and completely insane, but when you are tired and feel dirty and just don’t want to do anything else, if you give your face a deep cleaning, for some reason you just feel a lot better.  I have no idea why cleaning your face can wake you up and make you feel refreshed but for some reason for me it really does and I am soo happy that I brought my deep cleaning face mask with me on this trip because without it I would be absolutely miserable and probably not be able to do the rest of my work tonight.

Anyways, one of the masks I use is the Holy Mud Dead Sea mask and I actually really like this one.  Not only does it work for deep cleaning, but it also feels amazing when you put it on and even better when you wash it off.  I love the holy mud deep cleaning face mask and if you have a trip planned anywhere soon, you should seriously look into buying a deep cleaning mask for when you get to your hotel and you will be amazed at how much better you instantly feel after using a deep cleaning face mask.  I highly recommend them and if you want to try one that seems to pretty good and is all natural and very affordable in case security at the airport considers it a liquid, then you may want to try the Holy Mud Dead Sea Mask which you can buy on sale at Hair Care Discounters.

Anyways, I love using a deep cleaning mask when I travel and if you have any trips planned for the holidays or coming up soon, you should seriously look into bringing a deep cleaning mask with you.  It is a serious life saver.

Aquage Defining Gel

Aquage Defining Gel

I went to the salon today and it was absolutely amazing.  I love the new salon I went to and I also got to try a new product, well I didn’t get to try it but my stylist picked it out for me because I had never used it before.  (This is Adam btw).

My Stylist used a product from Aquage on my hair and it ended up being a gel and not a paste so I was a bit concerned because I haven’t used a gel in a long time and I usually only use pastes and hair sprays or glues and sometimes a wax but rarely, and so when she pulled out hair gel I pictured the 90’s when everyone was using gel and glue to spike their hair, but when she put it in on dry hair and rubbed it in, it actually worked just like a paste but was a lot lighter and had a much more matte and dry finish than most gels.

Although I was completely opposed to someone putting gel in my hair sometimes you have to trust your hair stylist and this time I was glad I did.

I had never used any Aquage products before and didn’t know much about them, but when she pulled them out and because we have them on the site I figured lets let her try it and give it a go.

The Aquage Defining Gel that she put in my hair was amazing.  She applied it on dry hair and used it to push my hair forward and up.  She first put some in the palms of her hands then rubbed the Aquage Defining Gel into her palms.  Then she started at the back of my head and worked her way forward running her fingers from my scalp to the tips of my hair making sure that the Aquage Defining Gel was distributed evenly through my hair.  Then she simply styled it and it looks amazing.  I now have a new love for hair gel and the Aquage line since it works like a paste but is a lot lighter and dries and looks even better.  It lets my hair have definition and you can easily hold its style, but at the same time it has a dry and matte finish so it isn’t shiney, greasy or gross looking.

If you haven’t tried the Aquage defining gel yet and you are opposed to gels, you seriously need to give this one a shot since it works like a paste and not a normal gel and looks and feels amazing.  I love the Aquage Defining Gel now and think that you should give it a try if you would like to try a new product or need a hair gel that works and looks like a paste or glue.

Products to Replace Sebastian Wet Sleek Gel.

  • Posted on November 6, 2009 at 7:08 pm

So one of the most popular products on the market from Sebastian was the Sebastian Originals Wet Sleek Gel and Sebastian got rid of it.   Unfortunately, we are almost sold out of it as well and so is just about every other vendor on earth.  The good thing is that there are other products out there that make great replacements for sebastian wet sleek hold gel, the bad news is that it is always scary to try a new products, especially when you have never used that brand or that type of new hair gel before. However, even though trying a new product or brand can be scary because you are used to your old brand, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give it a shot, especially if you have some of your original products left so you have time to try new products and still have some of your favorite product on hand for special events in case it takes you a while to find a new substitute for products like the Sebastian Originals wet sleek hold liquid gel.

Anyways, here are some of our recommended substitutes for Sebastian Wet Sleek Hold Liquid Gel.

Sebastian Gel Forte

Sebastian Gel Forte

The first gel we would like to recommend isn’t 100% a replacement product for Sebastian Wet Sleek Hold Liquid Gel, but it is another hair gel from Sebastian.  Sebastian Gel Forte gives you the same amazing light weight feeling while also giving you amazing hold.  The main difference is that this has more of a matte and dry look instead of the wet and oily, greasy hair look that the Sebastian Wet Sleek Hold Liquid Gel gave you.  This is a great alternative for people that want the Sebastian products and Sebastian quality and hold, but you will have to give up the wet look.

Redken Hard Wear Gel

Redken Hard Wear Gel

The Redken Hard Wear Gel is an amazingly great substitute for the Sebastian Wet Sleek Hold Liquid Gel.  The Redken Hard Wear Gel gives you around the same hold and same strength as the Sebastian Wet Gel and it also gives you that wet look and hold that you were used to.  Before you use this product though, you will want to use a deep cleaning product like the Nioxin Cleansers that we sell to make sure you pull out all of the old product so that you can see how great this product works.   It’s actually a good idea to use a deep cleaner like Nioxin every month or every once in a while, especially when you are changing products and brands so you can see how well the new product works.  This is actually a really good tip and will make a great blog post for next week.  Anyways, if you need a hair gel that gives the same look as the Sebastian wet gel, Redken Hard Wear Gel is a great option for you to try.  We also have the Redken Hard Wear Gel on sale for just $12.59 today.

Big exy Hair Blow Dry Volumizing Gel

Big exy Hair Blow Dry Volumizing Gel

Ok this hair gel isn’t a complete substitute but one that you may want to give a try.  Although it isn’t for everyone, if you want a hair gel that you can use to work with volume and hold and use in long hair, the Big Sexy Hair Blow Dry Volumizing Hair Gel is probably a great option for you try.  The Big Sexy Hair Volumizing Blow Dry Gel is a great product for people who like to have hair that has volume and needs lift and hold.  It is also designed to be used with Hair Dryers and heated appliances so if you use a hair dryer, this may be a good product for you to try.  There is nothing like your old hair gel, but if you want something that is designed for volume and hold, the Big Sexy Hair Blow Dry Volumizing Gel is a great product for you to try and we actually have the Big Sexy Hair Volumizing Gel on sale for just $11.79 today.

Short Sexy Hair Hard Up Gel

Short Sexy Hair Hard Up Gel

The Short Sexy Hair Hard Up Gel is another great substitute product to replace the Sebastian Wet Sleek Hold Liquid Gel.  Not only does this gel hold up and work amazingly well on short hair, but it also gives you the wet sleek look that the Sebastian gel gave you.  It is designed for both Men and Women and is a perfect alternative for people who have short hair that want to have a wet sleek look and want a strong holding gel.  The Short Sexy Hair Hard Up Gel is a great alternative to Sebastian Wet Sleek Hold Liquid Gel.

Alterna Hemp Texturizing Glaze

Alterna Hemp Texturizing Glaze

The Alterna Hemp Texturizing Glaze is amazing as an alternative for the Sebastian Wet Sleek Hold Liquid Gel.  Although it does not leave you with a wet look, it will help to style and treat your hair and help repair damage if you use heated tools or chemicals on your hair.  The Alterna Hemp Texturizing Glaze is a great product if you want a lighter hold and something that helps to repair your hair and helps to prevent damage.

I don’t have a good photo for this one, but the Brocato Styling Gel is an amazing hair gel for you to use instead of the Sebastian Gel as well.  The Brocato Hold On Styling Gel is a lightweight and strong holding gel that will not only look and feel just like the Sebastian Wet Gel, but you will easily fall in love with this hair gel as a replacement.  I love this hair gel and tons of women are hooked on it already.  If you want to try a new product to replace the Sebastian Wet Sleek Hold Gel, the Brocato Hold On Gel is an amazing option.

Hair Care Discounters carries a ton of different types of Gels and a couple other brands you may want to try to replace the Sebastian Wet Sleek Hold Gel include KMS, Sudzz FX and the Aquage.  All of these brands are about the same quality and all of them have a product that can help your hair and hold your hair just like the Sebastian Wet Sleek Hold Liquid Gel.  There are a ton of options to replace the Sebastian Wet Sleek Hold Liquid Gel and if you look through Hair Care Discounters, you’ll find a ton of choices to help you pick the right one.
