Are rhinestone nails coming back for early fall?

More and more I am seeing rhinestones popping up on peoples nails right now.  Although I think rhinestones need to be limited in designs and should never or almost never be on every nail, just like over doing it with glitter because it can clutter your nails and make them look like trash, they are picking up in popularity and I am starting to like them.

I saw a bride yesterday while walking and I did get to glimpse her hair and nails because she was talking and taking a smoke break with some friends outside of the church and loved the design she had, I wish I would have asked for a picture, but she had a thin coat of a color similar to alpine snow from OPI and she had these gorgeous thin painted gold glitter streaks in swirls on the base of her nails and they looked fabulous.  What I liked most though was the tiny rhinestone that all of the lines started from and the swirls were so random but beautiful that it just worked.

Then when I went to the grocery store the other night, again the girl at the checkout had her nails done (my iphone actually did not do these nails justice, they kind of looked like stained glass in person but do not look even half as good in a picture taken with my iphone so I apologize the the checkout girl ahead of time) and again, she did rhinestones the right way, in moderation.

You’ll see the rhinestones on her thumbnails mixed into the design to give it that cool looking 3d effect while still not overpowering the other colors or standing out too much.  Her nail artist made it so that the rhinestones worked with the design and not against it.

Now, rhinestones aren’t always bad if they stand out, but if they are going to stand out, make it because they were supposed to be the focus of the design and not because you just wanted rhinestones on your nails.

I love the colors on these nails and if you would have gotten to see what they actually looked like in person, trust me, they were much prettier than what you are seeing from this picture with my iphone.

Why should you use a titanium hair iron?

So something some people wonder when they actually want to start taking care of their hair and stop damaging it is why switch types of hair irons and spend more money for something that does the same thing as your old iron.  Especially when it comes to buying a hair iron that is made of or has titanium plates.

The thing is that there really is a difference in what Titanium does for your hair compared to the other metals that you may be used to using.

Unlike cheaper hair irons, titanium on a good hair iron actually can be heated to a higher temperature and actually work with your hair to penetrate deeper into your actual hair and style it for longer lasting hold and helping to prevent frizzing while cheaper irons that don’t use titanium just burn and fry your hair and take more time to actually style your hair.  Most titanium irons actually seem to help you style your hair about 40% faster than regular irons and because it is heated at a higher level and actually can sometimes help to lock in the moisture or help to keep your hair looking healthier and actually keep more of your hairs natural shine than other metals.

Another benefit to using titanium hair irons is that Titanium is an extremely smooth surface so when you are using other materials than titanium, you will notice your hair can sometimes snag or get stuck but with titanium irons your hair will start to glide through the iron with ease and you won’t get as many painfull snags and your hair will thank you.

Anyways, titanium is one of the best things you can do for your hair if you use flat irons on your hair and the best maker of the titanium hair irons is Babyliss which is seriously worth the spend when it comes to your hairs health.

Have you seen the Its a Ten Hair Product Line Yet?

So I decided to try something new this weekend, and although I am going crazy over MoroccanOil still, I switched it up this weekend and tried something new.  I used the Its a Ten Miracle Leave in Product for your hair.

This is a new product line out there that is basically an all in one product.  It combines pretty much everything from anti oxidants to Vitamins to repairing ingredients for your hair, your scalp and your hair color, etc… to give you pretty much every benefit there is from every product.

Now, there are a few ways to look at products like the Its a Ten product line and the Its a Ten Leave in Product.  You could look at it as a product line that puts everything into one bottle so you don’t have to worry about having to find a new product each time you do something different to your hair, like dying it or starting to use heated hair appliances like irons, etc…  or you can look at it like it is too much and you are going to stick with something that has everything and you want to stick with something that only does what you need it to and nothing more.

Both are great options, but if you share a home with your partner or Husband or Wife, or you have kids or you have guests over, this is a much more economical way to buy Shampoos and Conditioners and this Leave in hair product is perfect since it contains pretty much everything under the sun so it is great for you and all of your guests and you won’t need to have a million products like a fine hair or thinning hair shampoo and product for your husband, a volume one for yourself, something that is safe for blonds for your house guest and something that is safe enough for kids to use.   That is why I love Its a Ten and after using the leave in product for this weekend instead of MoroccanOil, it really does help with your hair.

It adds in shine, although my hair isn’t damaged right now, I could see where it would look and feel like it repaired or would help to repair my hair, My hair definitely remained smooth just like the MoroccanOil leaves it so I was able to style it and it was very easy to manage, and my hair did look pretty good.

Over all I really enjoyed the Its a Ten Miracle Leave in Product and although I am probably going back to my other products, I do love this one and if you are looking for a new leave in conditioner or product to help detangle your hair and control frizz, this is a great one to try.  It smells nice and it works and is perfect for about any type of hair.  Overall I would give it a ten so you have my recommendation on this product.

OPI Espana – The Hottest Collection yet and also OPI Fall 2009 Colors

OMG am I going crazy over OPIs 2009 fall color collection called Espana.  OPI Espana is absolutely amazing, I took this screen shot of their line from their website for you as well.

Can you believe how absolutely amazing this line looks?  What is going to be even harder to do is to see which ones they get rid of when the collection is over and which of the 5 make the OPI Classics…I have my own opinions on which ones will make it but it really is unfortunate that soo many of these amazing colors from the fall line are going to go away.

So lets start with some of my favorite colors from OPI Espana Colleccion.  (BTW, these are all now available on HaircareDiscounters.com in our OPI Section and you are now able to easily search our site and Nail Polish sections by category and OPI collection as well).  Although I should start going left to right across the colors in the picture above, I need to start with the green one in the middle.

This amazing emerald green opi nail polish is called Here today Aragon Tommorow and I am going crazy over it.  Not only will OPI Here today Aragon Tomorrow match your jewelry, dark clothing, formal wear and even fun wear, it is soo rich and dark and classy that I just cannot get over it.  This color is driving me insane and if you don’t buy it you are seriously missing out.   Anyways, now that I can relax a bit more, lets go over each color from the New OPI Fall Nail Polish Color Collection, Espana!

The first color on the left is called Barefoot in Barcelona and it is actually growing on me.  I usually only recommend these beige colors for accents, mixes and other multi colored nail designs, but I almost think that you can use this for a base color too.  I need a bit more time to think about this color but it is one that is growing on me.

The next color in the Espana Colleccion is the Can You Tapas This Brown Nail Polish for OPI.  Didn’t I say these rich dark colors would hit the fall season heavy, and sure enough OPI mastered the brown for 2009.  I really like this color for dark purple clothing, Blues, some Greens, anything with sequins and for anyone that wants something deep and rich.  It is a very versatile color but just remember to compare it to your skin tone and your outfit as it really is a unique and new shade to the Market.

Give me Moor from Espana is a color that we have seen somewhat before.  The difference in this purple fall color nail polish is that how dark and deep it is.  It’s like the Cherry Chutney except it has a really nice darker and fuller color.  I’m not always a fan or Purples but this one can definitely work.  I love it with Brunettes and it really works amazing with just about any skin color, mainly because it is also a nice deep dark wine purple.  Remember to accent this nail polish with the proper watch or jewelry and this is one that you can use to blend in and really give your nails some sex appeal.  This purple is perfect come Late October through December and will be perfect while you’re enjoying a glass of red with the one you love.

Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees is the blue fall nail polish from OPI.  Like most blue nail polishes think about how you are going to wear it and really enjoy it.  Perfect for the entire fall season your nails will look great with this blue color.  Blues have never been my favorites, but plenty of people love them, so if you are going to be doing some designs then this blue is for you.  Actually I take that back, I do love blue as a base color when you are airbrushing a design in white or another color over it for formal occasions like a snowball dance or holiday party.  This blue will look amazing with a snow flake or even wind blowing across your nails giving you a five finger design across all of your nails.

Here today Aragon Tomorrow…nothing more needs to be said,,,this is by far my favorite in this line and I cannot say enough about it.

Manicurist of Seville – watch out for this red.  Red nail polishes like Manicurist of Seville from OPI only come along once in a while and if you are a sucker for these deep dark and rich reds like I am, buy it up like crazy because if for gosh knows what reason this color does not make it to the Classics Collection, it may be gone forever and you may never see a gorgeous red like this again.

Pink Flamenco is a really fun color.  Usually I am against these pinks for fall but I am really liking this pink.  It is actually pretty perfect for your fall coats in beige, white, green, navy and pretty much everything else.  It is a bit bright but at the same time it works for some reason.  I am indifferent on it but it is growing on me a bit.

No Spain No Gain – I called this one, if you look at my last post about fall nail polish colors I said they would be coming out with shades like this for fall 2009.  I think it is perfect for Women who have family events, who are entertaining and need a color that doesn’t stand out too much and can let your jewelry shine.   Colors like this are perfect for fall and don’t take away from your clothing or your jewelry so they are perfect for presenting a cornocopia or even handing out candy on Halloween.  No Spain No Gain is a pretty solid color for fall 2009 and we called it a while back that this color would be coming out,,,,we just didn’t know the name.

Ate Berries in the Canaries – ok besides loving the name of this nail polish, this gem colored pink/purple is perfect for your fall getaway.  I love the name and think that it really is perfect for a fall holiday trip to an island getaway or even to Florida or California.  I don’t get too excited for these colors, but colors like Ate Berries in the Canaries does work for those trips to warmer weather so if you have something planned this fall, pick up this color and enjoy some fun and relaxation with this fabulous fall color.

Pamplona Purple from OPI is a gem colored purple nail polish that isn’t too new to the market but still is pretty cool.  It can match most skin types and would work well for a base color with designs on top of it, to use as an accent or even as a solid color if your skin does well with gem tones.  Pamplona Purple is an ok color and if you like the gem tones then this is one to try for you.

Conquistadora Color is fun.  A perfect gem toned pink nail polish for fall with amazing shine is perfect for parties, dances, dates, nights out, dinners and pretty much everything else.  I love this color and even though I normally shy away from pinks, this one matches everything so it is one that I would definitely recommend being in everyones collection.  Conquistadora Color is a perfect pink for Fall 2009.

Bullish on OPI I can do without.  I am not a fan of this color and actually don’t really like anything about it, however that doesn’t mean it won’t be good for someone else.  Everyone has their own taste and their own colors that they like so just because I don’t like this color doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try it.  If you like it and can find something to do with it then go for it.  For some reason I just don’t like it and don’t see it working for me or my Clients.  Bullish on OPI is an ok color, just not one for me.

What are some of the best hair products for Men?

So something that most style and hair blogs forget about are the men that read them.  They forget to mention that Men actually do care as much about their hair as Women and secretly read up on what products they should be using, what happens when their hair starts to thin, how can they keep from loosing more hair, what products are good for their hair and skin, how can they control acne and breakouts, especially when they are in the work place after college and are too old to be getting break outs, and so this post is for you guys and for your men.

Secretly and not so secretly Men (not just the metrosexuals and gays) are being more open about their concerns with their hair.  Going bald sucks and watching your hair start to thin can stink too.  Men weren’t always as privy to products for thin or fine hair and so if their hair starts to thin, and their styling products no longer work, they are all of the sudden at a loss, where as Women have been playing with these types of products all of their lives and are more easily able to switch to a new product or styling product if they notice their hair is damaged, dry, if they have fine hair or a friend who has curls and unfortunately most men don’t get that.

Creating Wavy Hair With a Flat Iron – Fast and Easy!

So people always think that flat irons are used for straightening your hair, however Flat Irons are actually a multi-purpose tool that can be used to help you create those amazing waves too.

Using your flat iron to create wavey hair is actually very easy to do and once you get the hang of it you’ll be able to turn your straight hair into wavey hair in no time at all.

The first thing to do is to heat your iron, our preferred Hair Iron for doing this is the Babyliss Pro Nano Titanium Flat Iron as it has ceramic plates to help with your hair, heats quickly and helps to prevent frizz.

While your iron heats up, blow out your hair so that it is dry enough for you to style.  You may also want to use MoroccanOil or another repair product when using heated styling products to help protect your hair from damage.

When you have your hair dried and ready for styling, start with the front of your hair at the top and take your heated flat iron down your hair while flipping it at 180 degree turns.  This creates nice waves in your hair.  Work your hair around from the front to the back of your hair and when doing the back, you may want to set up a second mirror when you are first learning how to create waves so that you can see what you are doing.  When you have more practice, doing the back of your hair will become second nature for you and you’ll just know when it is done and matches he waves in the front of your hair.

Now if you want stronger waves and you weren’t able to get them on your first time around your hair.  Don’t keep doing the same strands over and over again.  What you should do so you cause less damage to your hair and get better style is to let the strand cool off and move on to the next section of your hair then once the original strands have cooled down, go back to them and begin the process of working your hair from top to bottom flipping the iron at 180 degree turns and your hair will begin to get those gorgeous waves back in your hair so that you can have gorgeous wavy hair like you see in hair commercials and when the actresses walk the red carpet.

Now, some other things you can do to enhance the look of your new wavey hair include using a hair oil afterwards like MoroccanOil which not only helps to repair damage, but also add in shine and health, (To use MoroccanOil Oil Treatment, pour a drop into your hands and rub it together in your palms then run it through your hair from top to bottom and let it stay there, do not rinse it out), or use a styling poduct like any of the Mousses or Volumizing products from Alterna Hemp to hold your hair from deflating and add in a natural shine from the Hemp Seed Oils that are in the Alterna Hemp Line.

Remembering when I was a Platinum Blond and How I kept my hair healthy.

I recently moved and although I hate moving, as I am sure you all have had the same stress that comes along with it, one thing I do love is finding photos and photo albums that you packed away or somehow got lost in a closet and reliving old memories.

One of the photo albums I found had pictures of me in College when I used to have platinum blond hair.  It would take easily an hour with some very strong hair bleach on my head to get my hair that gorgeous shade of white/blond, but I also remember how horrible it itched and how it felt like it was burning my scalp.  Little did I know that you could bleach without hitting your scalp which I eventually started to do (I could have seriously used that info when I first started lol) but luckily my stylist did set me up with some products that actually helped me to not feel so much irritation after we would finish with my hair and help me to almost instantly have healthy and silky feeling and looking hair again within a day or two.

Without the knowledge and products that my stylist gave me, I probably would have lost my hair or had so much breakage that I would have needed to cut it off or shorten it, but since I had a great person to get advice from, I was able to prepare ahead of time for future bleachings when I started using him and treat my hair afterwards so that it not only looked gorgeous, but I could also keep my blond hair lookin natural, shiny and healthy.

What we basically talked about when I walked into his salon was how much I had damaged my scalp and how fried my hair was from the harmful chemicals in hair bleach.  We then went over to the products counter and he started to talk to me about the importance of using proper products that are rich in vitamins and nutrients and since I was in college, he also introduced me to two lines of hair products that are not only perfect for treating bleach damaged hair, but also hip and trendy looking and could create the hair styles that I had wanted.  (BTW this is Adam posting for your normal Haircare Heather since she is on break today). The Bed Head Dumb Blond shampoo was awesome.  Unlike the other shampoos that I had been using before, this one did not agitate my scalp or hurt when I would put it on.  It would also actually feel relaxing in my hair when I would let it sit and when I would wash it out, my hair felt amazing.  It even looked like it was repaired after the first use.  I loved this product and was grateful when my stylist showed it to me, but then when he introduced me to the Joico Ice products for styling, he really won me and my damaged hair over.

Spiker Ice from Joico was amazing and it also fit my budget since I was a college student.  The glue inside the tube of Spiker Ice was easy to work with on my hair and gave me instant hold which I loved.  I also used the white glue and it never once damaged the color or stained my hair either.   ICE would also dry very fast and the best part is my hands would be pretty much spotless after I was finished styling my hair.

The lack of clean up and with all of the vitamins in these products made them idea for my lifestyle of needing affordable and good for bleached hair products that also fit into a college students budget.

Without the help of my Stylist teaching me how to properly treat my hair before and after bleaching, I probably would have lost all my hair from it breaking and wouldn’t have known what to do, so thank you again Dominic for showing me how to properly treat bleached hair and get it back to health.

Emmy Season is Here – But do you have award winning hair?

I can’t believe that it is already Emmy season again.  The awards are on September 20th 2009 this year and people are already getting their invites.  Last year was great where we had People like Kathy Griffin win her second Emmy and actually behave herself for the most part, completely out of character for her, and so many amazing dresses and hairstyles.   The thing I like most about the Emmys though are the parties that everyone throws and how some people get completely glammed up for these events.

Everyone Needs to Detox – So why not detox your hair and Skin too?

Soo I am on this detoxing kick right now.  I had to travel a lot the last couple weeks for work and when you’re entertaining clients and out to eat you don’t always eat right and there is always happy hours and drinks with Clients and after meeting with them for a couple of weeks you just start to feel weighed down and unhealthy.

I hate that feeling and the best way for me to help get rid of it is to start eating right again and really paying attention to everything I am doing.  This week I am living on fruits and vegetables and drinking a ton of water and I am already starting to feel the difference.  Now I’m not a vegetarian by any means and I did have a steak and some other non fruit products, but I ate them without a ton of extra sauces or add ons and I did try to eat organic foods because although the human body can process and easily work through the chemicals and treated foods, and they aren’t always bad for you either, sometimes you just need a break from them to get your body to flush all of the chemicals out of your system.

Today for lunch and dinner I picked up this gorgeous fruit salad and it is amazing how much better I feel after I eat it and I can seriously tell that my body is happier too.  I also started walking a couple miles each day to get my metabolism going again and I am starting to feel fabulous.
