Its that time again. Products for Color Treated Hair

  • Posted on February 15, 2010 at 2:24 pm

I cannot believe it is already that time again.  Valentine’s Day just passed and St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner from now.  We are finally getting out of all of the Winter Weather and snow and starting to put our cold weather and cold damage hair products away and starting to get ready for all of our fun Spring Hair Care Products.

However, one thing that many of us forget to do each year is begin prepping our hair for all of the harmful and dangerous Summer Hair Chemicals, Colors and Products that we all use.

Summer for many of us means going blond, adding in highlights, using irons and curlers to flip our hair and heavy hold and humidity resistant hair products which some can do damage to your hair and some will actually help to heal and are more safe for your hair.

With the season changing and the cold not as damaging to our hair, it is time to start prepping our hair for all of the damage we will do to it in order to look better for the Summer Seasons.  Don’t worry though because HairCareDiscounters.com is here for you to help you with some product recommendations on how to help you keep from doing extra damage to your hair and help to keep it healthier before you start your normal Summer hair coloring, dying and styling.

The first product I recommend buying and starting to use asap is MoroccanOil Oil Treatment which contains the amazing Argan Oil which you can find in Morocco (That is also how it gets it’s name).  The Argan Oil is very rich in fatty acids and proteins that help to not only build up the strength of your hair, but also help to keep it looking and feeling healthy as well as help minimize the damage done by some chemicals from coloring and can help prevent more damage from being done by using it before and after you color your hair.

It is also a good idea to start buying color safe styling and hair products like shampoos, conditioners and sprays (we have a ton of them) so that you can keep your color in tact.  Although you don’t need to use these products until you have actually started coloring your hair or adding in highlights, but at the same time, if you order your products with your MoroccanOil Oil Treatment from Hair Care Discounters and get one last bottle of your current Winter hair care products you should be able to hit the $60+ mark where you will also get free shipping on your order.  That is a huge deal and a huge savings by shopping today at Hair Care Discounters.com.

*Free shipping is at $60+ today 2/15/2010.  This minimum price may go up or down as deals change.

  • Posted on December 22, 2009 at 8:11 pm

One product or color treated hair treatment that most people don’t even know exist, but is probably one of the very best treatments for color treated hair is the Matrix Biolage Cera-Repair ColorCareTherapie Treatments.   Not only are they made by one of the most well known and most trusted brands of professional salon quality products Matrix and in the Biolage brand, but the Cera-repair treatments for color treated and dyed hair are extremely affordable and can help to provide almost instant results by starting to help immediately condition color treated, bleached and dyed hair.

What most people love about the Matrix Biolage Cera-Repair Treatments is that they not only help to repair and condition your hair after it has been damaged by the hair dyes and bleached, but the treatments also help to protect and show off your new hair color so that it not only helps to keep your hair color looking fabulous, but it also helps to keep your hair looking amazing.

The conditioning and color benefits from the Matrix Biolage Cera-Repair treatments come from the unique formula that Matrix Biolage developed for this products which according to our site Hair Care Discounters is a protein and cermide based formula that is combined with botanicals (which are usually very good for your hair and smell great when you use them) to help repair your hair’s cuticles and the product has vitamin E, hibiscus and rosemary which is supposed to help your hair protect the color and help keep your hair looking amazing even longer.

Some of the other benefits you may get from using the Matrix Biolage Colorcaretherapie Cera-Therapy treatments is that it is also designed to help your hair look and feel shiney as well as make your hair more manageable after it is damaged from coloring and dying it.

The Matrix Biolate Colorcaretherapie Cera-Repair Treatments are probably one of the most commonly missed products that we think should be more commonly used.  Not only are the color treated hair treatments affordable, but they are also on sale at Hair Care Discounters where you can buy them for a huge discount compared to retail prices.  Click here to buy the Biolage Color Treated Hair Treatments today and start to repair the damage you did to your hair when you colored it this winter.

Matrix Amplify Color XL Shampoo and Conditioner

Matrix Amplify Color XL Shampoo and Conditioner

So if you have been watching Tabithas Salon Takeover on Bravo or even just been watching a ton of fashion and tv shows lately, you’ll notice that highlights and low lights are back big time.  Not to mention that coloring your hair with off color accents like blue and purple have also started to make a comeback which is why it is extremely important to start to learn and prepare your hair for these new color trends that are sneaking back up on us.

One thing that many people forget about is that whenever you use a color to your hair, whether going darker or lighter, the chemicals do damage to it.  When you go lighter the damage is much greater than going darker, most of the time at least, so you need a shampoo and conditioner that not only works with your hair and helps to protect it and treat the color damage you have done, but you also need a shampoo and conditioner that helps to protect your new hair color so that you do not have to treat or dye your hair as often and can let it start to repair and become healthier.

One shampoo and conditioner combination that I love for color treated hair is the Matrix Amplify XL for Color Treated Hair shampoo and conditioner set.

Not only does this set help protect and repair your color treated hair, but the Matrix Amplify Color XL shampoo and Conditioner set is also extremely affordable which is something that almost all of us are looking for right now.  Affordable products that can actually help us fix our hair and can help  to help to provide quality results just like a salon would.

Matrix Ampify Color XL shampoo and Conditioner helps to not only give your hair a Salon quality look and feel, but it is also one of the most affordable salon quality color treated hair shampoo and conditioner sets out there.

I don’t color my hair anymore, but I do know that these products are extremely popular, not only because of their prices, but also because they seem to work extremely well on almost all color treated hair types.  Try the Matrix Amplify Color XL Shampoo and Conditioner set today by buying it on sale at Hair Care Discounters.

Matrix Biolage Conditioning Balm

Matrix Biolage Conditioning Balm

Hi everyone, I normally don’t product blog until Fridays featured product Fridays posts, but I have been playing with a product that a ton of people already know about because I wanted to see what all of the hype was.  Normaly I stick to hair masks and leave in deep hydrating conditioners, but when I noticed a ton of people looking for good deals on the Biolage Conditioning Balm I decided to give it a try and see what everyone is going on about and why everyone is going crazy for the Matrix Conditioning Formula.

When looking through the ingredients and the different uses, I found that this is actually probably one of the most versatile conditioners on the Market today.  I wish I had found it sooner because it would have been one of the perfect products to include in my Before you Jump In The Pool this Labor day post as the Biolage Conditioning Balm also helps to protect your hair from chemical damage like Chlorine and Bromine by helping to block the chemicals from ever reaching your hair, just like water logging your hair with tap or natural water before going swimming, so it would have been a great tip and still is a great tip for people who are looking to find out how to help better protect their hair from chemicals in pool water and while swimming.

The Matrix Biolage Conditioning Balm is a light weight formula which is unique to this conditioner because most conditioners leave your hair feeling heavy and weighted, but this one is perfect for your hair if you hate that feeling since it leaves your hair feeling light and still gives you that rich full feeling, just not weighed down or feeling like it is going to fall.  I personally love when my hair feels light and free, even though I know that the products I use are keeping it in place, it just feels light so it seems like it is flowing freely.

Light weight formulas are more expensive as well normally, but when you try them out, you will seriously see the difference and never want to go back to heavy weighed down conditioners again.  The formula for Biolage Conditioning Balm is also mixed with Lemongrass and Sage which not only smells amazing, but also helps to protect and repair the damage done to your hair and leave it looking flexible, soft and really helps to bring back the elasticity that could have been lost from color treating your hair or styling damage.

Matrix Biolage Conditioning Balm also uses the moisturizing ingredients Aloe Vera and and algaes which everyone knows helps to repair, lock in and restore moisture in your hair.  This is important because when your hair’s natural moisture balance is on key, that is how your hair gets the natural shine that looks amazing and like you are using a shine spray or hair oil but not greasy or fake which is why these ingredients really help to make this product even better, especially if you have dry and brittle hair from going lighter, highlights, burning it from hot appliances like hair irons and other types of damage that leave your hair dry, brittle and breaking.

Overall I love this product now and cannot wait to really put it to the test on vacation to California in a couple weeks…I may even go blond again just to see how well it does with repairing bleach damage and then chlorine on top of it from the pool.  I’ll definitely keep you all updated on if I go blond and let you know how this worked and if you have tried the Biolage Conditioning Balm and loved it, or hated it, please feel free to respond here and let us know how it worked for you.

We also, have Matrix Biolage Conditioning Balm on sale today for $27.50 which is over 38% off Salon Retail prices so if you want to try it, or if you need to buy more of it, this is the perfect time to refill, restock or give it a try.

Before you jump in the pool this Labor Day. Protect Your Hair!

  • Posted on September 4, 2009 at 6:16 pm

Before you jump in the pool this weekend, we wanted to give you some tips on how to protect your hair from all of the chemicals and damage that chlorine and bromine can do to your hair.  Especially if you have long and thick hair or even fine hair, the worst thing you can do is not protect it.  By not taking steps towards reducing the damage, you’ll be spending a lot more money this fall and a lot more time repairing it to get it looking healthy, shiny and not soo damaged or dry.

Taking steps to prevent your hair from drying out, breaking and getting chemical damaged from Chlorine and Bromine in the pool or hot tub this Labor day weekend is actually very easy and won’t take much time and most of it won’t even cost you any money.  Just do a few things and your hair will be a lot healtheir and thank you for keeping it looking and feeling great.

1.  Water log your hair in the shower or in the sink with normal tap water before going in the pool or hotub.  By drenching your hair in water before going into pool or hot tub water, your hair keeps the clean chemical free (or reduced) water in it leaving less room for the chemicals to hit it and sink in keeping your hair healthier and happier.

2.  When you finish swimming, use a shampoo designed for dry hair or one that helps to repair damage from chemicals and dryness.  Then use a matching conditioner and most importantly,,,,well not really most importantly but something I love is to use  MoroccanOil afterwards so your hair not only looks and feels repaired, but also looks fabulous and revived.

3.  Although wearing a swimmers cap prevents your hair from ever hitting the water and getting damaged, they are tight, not comfortable and seriously unfashionable, so although that is an awesome way to keep your hair healthy from pool and hot tub water, it is not practical and I personally think you should do without them…but if you want to wear one, go for it.

Protecting your hair from chlorine and chemical damage is key during the summer and because Labor Day Weekend is the major holiday that everyone goes swimming it is important to not forget to take care of your hair because the cold weather is coming and wet hair plus icy cold air does even more damage and stresses your hair even more.  Protect it during the summer and in the Pool this Labor day and you’ll be on your way to better looking hair for the Fall and Winter and have less damage to worry about.

Remembering when I was a Platinum Blond and How I kept my hair healthy.

  • Posted on August 24, 2009 at 7:25 pm

I recently moved and although I hate moving, as I am sure you all have had the same stress that comes along with it, one thing I do love is finding photos and photo albums that you packed away or somehow got lost in a closet and reliving old memories.

One of the photo albums I found had pictures of me in College when I used to have platinum blond hair.  It would take easily an hour with some very strong hair bleach on my head to get my hair that gorgeous shade of white/blond, but I also remember how horrible it itched and how it felt like it was burning my scalp.  Little did I know that you could bleach without hitting your scalp which I eventually started to do (I could have seriously used that info when I first started lol) but luckily my stylist did set me up with some products that actually helped me to not feel so much irritation after we would finish with my hair and help me to almost instantly have healthy and silky feeling and looking hair again within a day or two.

Without the knowledge and products that my stylist gave me, I probably would have lost my hair or had so much breakage that I would have needed to cut it off or shorten it, but since I had a great person to get advice from, I was able to prepare ahead of time for future bleachings when I started using him and treat my hair afterwards so that it not only looked gorgeous, but I could also keep my blond hair lookin natural, shiny and healthy.

What we basically talked about when I walked into his salon was how much I had damaged my scalp and how fried my hair was from the harmful chemicals in hair bleach.  We then went over to the products counter and he started to talk to me about the importance of using proper products that are rich in vitamins and nutrients and since I was in college, he also introduced me to two lines of hair products that are not only perfect for treating bleach damaged hair, but also hip and trendy looking and could create the hair styles that I had wanted.  (BTW this is Adam posting for your normal Haircare Heather since she is on break today). The products that he showed me were TIGI Dumb Blond and the Joico Styling Line so I could have spikey hair as well.  (It was college afterall).

Joico ICE Hair Spiker Water Resistant Style Glue 2.5Oz

Joico ICE Hair Spiker Water Resistant Style Glue 2.5Oz

The Bed Head Dumb Blond shampoo was awesome.  Unlike the other shampoos that I had been using before, this one did not agitate my scalp or hurt when I would put it on.  It would also actually feel relaxing in my hair when I would let it sit and when I would wash it out, my hair felt amazing.  It even looked like it was repaired after the first use.  I loved this product and was grateful when my stylist showed it to me, but then when he introduced me to the Joico Ice products for styling, he really won me and my damaged hair over.

Spiker Ice from Joico was amazing and it also fit my budget since I was a college student.  The glue inside the tube of Spiker Ice was easy to work with on my hair and gave me instant hold which I loved.  I also used the white glue and it never once damaged the color or stained my hair either.   ICE would also dry very fast and the best part is my hands would be pretty much spotless after I was finished styling my hair.

The lack of clean up and with all of the vitamins in these products made them idea for my lifestyle of needing affordable and good for bleached hair products that also fit into a college students budget.

Without the help of my Stylist teaching me how to properly treat my hair before and after bleaching, I probably would have lost all my hair from it breaking and wouldn’t have known what to do, so thank you again Dominic for showing me how to properly treat bleached hair and get it back to health.

How to create alternative hairstyles and be able to wash your hair.

  • Posted on August 18, 2009 at 8:34 pm

So when I was looking through our product lines and thinking about something fun to write today, I realized that it is almost back to school time and for high school and college students that means new trends, new cliques and possibly finding new hobbies.

With those new groups of friends and new ideas thoughts or beliefs that come with them, a lot of times you find yourself buying new clothes to match your friends and their cliques or you do it because you hadn’t seen anything like it before and think it is just a really cool look.  However, with the new clothes and new looks comes new hairdos and hairstyles and with a new hairstyle, you sometimes need new products.

For example, if you had natural looks all through highschool or junior high, but you are now starting to listen to punk music or goth music and are dying your hair, your old shampoos and conditioners may not be as effective or good for your hair so you should start to look at color protecting shampoos and conditioners as well as color protecting styling products that help to repair and replenish your hair so that it is strong and healthy.

TIGI BedHead Dumb Blonde Shampoo Damage Treated 13.5 Oz Pump

TIGI BedHead Dumb Blonde Shampoo Damage Treated 13.5 Oz Pump

If you go blond for example, one of my favorite product lines for people who lighten their hair is TIGI and their Dumb Blonde Shampoo product however I used a different conditioner just because I liked the way the other conditioner smelled, even though it wasn’t a smart one to use on color treated hair.  I used to actually use them myself when I was a blond because they not only repaired my hair and made it safe to style and prevented the breakage and split ends from bleaching my hair to white, but it also did not stain or damage the color which many other products would have done.

You’re also going to want to use styling products that will actually help to repair and reverse the damage done by coloring it so that your hair does not start to break and fall out.  You need to be careful when you are using colors and chemicals if you have never dyed your hair before because they really can effect your hair and if you don’t buy products that repair the damage you can end up with tangled, dry and damaged hair, and if your styling products are not for colored hair either, your color could fade, you could further add to the damage and possible have your hair start to break and fall out.  So if you are dying your hair and still need to style it, I recommend looking at the Alterna Hemp styling products because they are infused with Hemp Seed Oil Extracts that actually help strengthen your hair and add shine back to your hair so it not only feels healthier, it also looks healthier and has more life to it.

Sebastian Molding Mud

Now, one alternative style that drives me crazy is the dreadlock.  And trust me I dread them.  Most people who have them get them y not washing their hair and then twisting it which to me is gross.  There is no reason on earth why you shouldn’t clean your hair.  Hygiene is seriously important and the hair care industry is advanced enough that they have created product that can easily achieve these hairstyles without you having to stop washing your hair or taking care of yourself.

Sebastian for example created a Fiber infused Sculpting Mud and a Clay that has a matte finish and can easily be used to create dreadlocks and other alternative messy hair styles so that you can still shower and have clean hair and also have that messy fun hippy look that you want.  Dreadlocks don’t have to be dirty any more and there is no reason to not wash your hair so if you want dreads or other messy styles, just buy a sculpting mud or clay and twist it in your hair after washing and you’ll still be able to have your dreadlocks, but in clean healthy and happy hair.

Going back to school is a very exciting time for people and also a scary one for parents as you never know what your kids will come home looking like or what their hair will look like.  But just remember, they are still your kids and although you may not understand why they want rainbow hair or huge messy dreadlocks, you can at least protect their hair and help to reverse the damage done to it by getting them the correct products to properly repair the damage and get their hair looking healthy again.

Swimmers Hair and Chlorine Protection – What can you do?

  • Posted on August 18, 2009 at 1:04 am

So what I don’t get is why is everyone talking about swimmers hair or swimming hair?  I heard a woman make a comment to Lisa on the Real Housewives of Altanta on Bravo TV, My mom mentioned it to me on her visit down here, and I even had a friend in NYC talk to me about this last week at a party at Johnny Utahs.  They all had comments, suggestions, ideas or questions about the damage that is done by swimming pool chemicals like chlorine and what you can do to not only protect your hair and help reverse the damage done to your hair by swimming pools when swimming season is now over.

Well, then again it could be that people are now starting to see how the chlorine, bromine and other chemicals has destroyed their hair all Summer and are now wondering what they can do to repair this damage so they can go back to school with fabulous healthy looking hair and back to the workplace and prep for all of the harsh cold winter and brisk fall weather. Have no fear because we are hear to help you out, no matter what climate you live in.

First, in the Midwest and Northeast and Northwest swimming season still has a few weeks left before the pools shut down and it starts to get cold, and for those of you who live in Southern California, Florida or anywhere where swimming is good year round, this advice will be good for you as well.

The first and foremost most important thing to do before jumping into a pool is to water log your hair with water from the shower at the pool or in your own shower. By water logging your hair before you go in the pool with spring water or tap water from your shower (which has less chemicals than your pool or hot tub does) you will help in preventing the chemically treated water from getting into all of your hair and keep the cleaner safer water drenched inside so you get less damage done. I am not sure how this works because when you’re swimming you’d think that since your hair moves in the water it would soak up pool water too,,,,but for some reason many Stylists, Women and some Men swear by Water Logging your hair before you go into the pool or the hot tub. This does seem to work so we highly recommend you do this before going swimming for the rest of the season and every time afterwards.

Now, suppose you have been just diving on in all Summer and not noticing or caring what the chemicals in the pool have done to your hair, no worry, we have a ton of products available to help you restore your hair back to health and give you that gorgeous healthy volume, beauty, life, strength and shine that you want.

The first product is one that I am now becoming obsessed with. It is MoroccanOil Oil Treatment.

MoroccanOil Oil Treatment

MoroccanOil Oil Treatment

If you can’t tell by now I am obsessed with this product and actually just got my Mom to try it and trust me, she is about to convert into a serious MoroccanOil Oil Treatment fan.  She needs it for her hair which she gets colored often, but if you have damaged hair from swimming in pools and chlorine, the oil of the Argan Extract in Moroccan Oil Oil Treatment will help to begin to repair the damage almost instantly and add some serious shine back into your hair.  The best part about this product is that even though it is a hair oil that actually works to rebuild, strengthen, heal and nourish your hair back to health and even leave it with a seriously healthy shine, it actually does not leave any greasy oily residue behind.

MoroccanOil Oil Treatment is an amazing product to help repair the damage done this Summer from swimming in chemically treated water in pools and hot tubs and Moroccan Oil Oil Treatment should be the very first product to reach for before you go into the pool and water log your hair and especially after you have washed your hair when you get done in the pool.

Salons, Stylists and people around the world are swearing by the power of the Argan Oil in Moroccan Oil and you seriously need to give this stuff a try.

If Moroccan Oil isn’t the right product for you, or you just don’t want to use a hair oil, there are other products that you can use to help repair pool damage done to your hair and get your hair back to health.

The Alterna Caviar Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner with Seasilk Collection is an amazing daily shampoo and conditioner set to use for adding back and replenishing the moisture that chemicals like Chlorine can pull out of your hair and they help to repair the damage done by these harmful chemicals too.  The Alterna Caviar with Seasilk moisture shampoo and conditioner sets  should do the trick on your hair, but if you want that little something extra to help defeat swimmers hair and help reverse and repair the damage done by Chlorine and other pool chemicals, you can always try the Hair Masque too.

Aquage Silkening Shampoo

Aquage Silkening Shampoo

Aquage Silkening Conditioner

Aquage Silkening Conditioner

As a final recommendation for a couple of products to help get your silky shiny hair back, we’d like to show you all a sulfate free daily shampoo and conditioner from Aquage.

You know, its kind of funny, all of the products that I am recommending for fixing swimmers hair and hair damaged by swimming pools for the most part have sea or sea products in them.  Aquage has their SeaExtend in these amazing sulfate free Shampoo and this Conditioner that will help to give you back your beautiful silky smooth and shiny hair that you lost over the summer from the water in the swimming pool or hot tub.

By using botanicals from the sea, Aquage has developed this luxury line of products to protect your hair color and your hair from damage and leave it looking and feeling silky, shiny, healthy and alive. Although I have never used these products on myself, there are tons of people who are now switching over and becoming fans of Aquage Silkening Shampoo and Conditioner so if you need to repair damage, protect color and want silky hair, you may want to give these to products a try.  Just click on the images to the left and you’ll find them both on sale at Haircare Discounters.com.

Anyways, the most important thing to remember if you are going swimming is to take care of your hair ahead of time.  Drench your hair with fresh water in the shower before going into a pool or hot tub and use products afterwards that will help to not only make your hair look great, but protect you from your next time swimming and help repair the damage from your last time swimming in the pool.   Although swimming is fun and swimmers have great bodies, if they don’t protect their hair, then their hair surely wont be either.  Protect your hair before and after swimming and not only will you be able to have fun in a pool or hot tub, but you’ll also look fabulous while you are doing it.
