candy corn nail designs for the fall

  • Posted on October 13, 2009 at 5:51 pm

Ok, so a really easy to do design for your nails for the fall which works through thanksgiving is perfect for both adults and kids.  It is candy corn nails and the best part is, you don’t even have to be good with painting to do them.  There are a few different designs you can do for candycorn nails and each one gets a little more difficult but at the same time, all of these are seriously easy to do and are great designs for the fall holidays.

Candy Corn Nail Design 1.

Take a piece of paper that is sticky on one side like a sticker or name tag or even just labels for your office.  Cut them into three long strips that cover one third of your nail.

Then paint your nails completely white.

now, when the white nail polish dries, take one of the strips and lay it across the middle of your nail and do this on each nail.

Then take the orange nail polish and paint a stripe across the bottom of your nail.

Then take the yellow and paint a stripe across the top.

You can also do the base yellow and do white at the top and orange at the bottom so you get three even sections on your nails which now look like candy corn.  Candy corn nails are seriously easy to do.

Candy Corn Nails design number 2.

Take the sticker paper or labels and cut them into squares or shapes that cover your entire nail.  Then cut out a small triangle with a rounded top on them or use a hole puncher shaped like candy corn. Then cut a very long strip and make sure it covers 1/3 of the hole that you cut out shaped like candy corn.

Then paint your nail a dark brown color or any other dark fall nail polish color or even some lighter colors.

Now, place the candy corn shaped pattern over your nails.

Now, paint the entire candy corn shape white.

Now, when that dries, place the thin strip across the middle of the pattern and then panint the orange and yellow nail polish across the top and the bottom of the pattern to make the candy corn shape.

When it dries, remove the patterns and you now have candy corn shapes and colors on your nails.

Candy Corn Nail designs are fun for everyone and a really fun design for fall.   They are also easy to do and fun for you to do with your family.  Something you could also do is paint candy corn nails on most of your fingers and then make one a big candy corn nail design with the others being design number 2.  I love this design and think that you will too if you want a really fun nail polish design for the fall holidays.  You can also buy all of these colors and more here at Hair Care Discounters on sale.

Top Ten Nail Polish Colors for Fall So Far!

  • Posted on October 7, 2009 at 6:46 pm

So I am loving all of the fall nail polish colors.  Just like we thought there are a ton of darker colors and rich colors going out like crazy, however I have seen a bunch of random colors popping up and old colors making a come back this fall season, so I wanted to do a list of what I am seeing people wearing, combined with people searching and new colors that people are just finding and listing them for a new top ten nail polish colors for fall list.   I know we did one earlier this year,,,well a couple months ago I think, but it never hurts to update the list or do a new one when the season actually hits.

So here are the top ten nail polish colors for Fall 2009:

10.  OPI Pretty and Privileged.  From the famous 90210 and sure to hit the classics collection, OPI Pretty and Privileged makes our top ten list in the number ten spot.  Not only is it a nice and calm autumn color, but it also works amazingly well for thanksgiving nail polish colors and just after Halloween when the leaves have changed and pumpkin is seriously in season…well pumpkin pie and pumpkin breads at least.  OPI Pretty and Privileged is an all seasons color but especially perfect for fall.

9.  OPI Queen of West Web-erly.  The sister to the OPI Pretty and Privileged, OPI Queen of West Web-erly is also from the 90210 collection and more than likely will make the classics collection.  This is another rich and calming color and works great with dark autumn colors and browns or even some yellows and reds.  A perfect blend in color, OPI Queen of West Web-erly is a great nail polish color for fall.

8.  OPI La Paz-itively Hot.  This one took me off guard.  It was huge this summer and people were having trouble keeping it in stock.  When I saw the trend continue into fall I was completely shocked.  Then again, it is being used for hot fall styles like french manicures (They are back for fall again with the pink and white or off white colors on top) and painted nails as well as for base colors under nail art and 3d nail designs.  OPI La Paz-itively hot is above and beyond one of the biggest colors out there and made our list for the top fal nail polish colors.

7.  OPI Barefoot in Barcelona.  I knew that some of the OPI Espana Collection would make it to the top ten list and the first color that hit the top ten list is OPI Barefoot in Barcelona.  Not only can it be used for leaves and other painted nail designs, but it also looks fabulous as a solid color on its own.  I love the OPI Barefoot in Barcelona and think it is a perfect color for fall.

6.  OPI Russian Navy.  Ok, this was was weird to see for fall.  These blue colors usually don’t make a big hit until winter, however with Halloween coming up fast, OPI Russian Navy does make sense since it works amazingly well as a solid color for halloween costumes or even for a formal event, but for non Halloween wear it makes a perfect color for painted nails and even some solid colors with formal wear.  Somehow it got on our Top Ten List and OPI Russian Navy does work great for early and late fall…I’d hold off on it during thanksgiving though.

5.  OPI Boris and Natasha.  A classic color from OPI, Boris and Natasha is an amazingly fun purple nail polish color that makes a great fall accent to painted nails, for nail art, for aolid colored nails if you just want something simple and fun and is a completely versatile color that looks great with most skin colors and types.  OPI Boris and Natasha is our number 5 pick for the best fall nail polish colors.

4.  OPI Hey! Get in Lime!.  Is going crazy this fall.  OPI Hey Get in Lime is an amazing and gorgeous mint green colored nail polish and a perfect polish for fall.  Not only does it work great after summer but it also matches most fall colors and works amazingly well for winter so it lasts well among all fall weathers, outfits and styles.  OPI Hey! Get in Lime is an amazing pick for fall and I love this color and know that you will to.

3.  OPI Brisbane Bronze.  OPI Brisbane Bronze is completelty a fall color.  Not only is vintage clothing, hair, make up and nails back in, but the vintage metal colors are completely back in full force and since the OPI Brisbane Bronze is an amazing and gorgeous metal color, well duh it is called bronze, it completely went from nowhere to the number 3 spot in the best nail polish colors for fall.

2.  OPI Here Today Aragon Tomorrow.  I love this color.  The OPI Here Today Aragon Tomorrow is by far my favorite color from the OPI Espana Collection and because vintage is back in full force this fall, this amazing green nail polish went from being brand new to being a best seller.  I love OPI Here Today Aragon Tomorrow and if you still haven’t bought this color, you need to click the link to the left and try it out.  It seriously is probably the best color for fall,,,,since it is still new it didn’t have a fair shot at being in the number one spot, but hey number 2 isn’t bad either.

1.  OPI Venus Di Violet.  This one came as a complete shock to me.  OPI Venus Di Violet was the number one nail polish for fall this year.   I used Google, Amazon, our Search, as well as other reviews and review sites to get the information and somehow this color made it to the top of the list.  Then it started to explain why OPI Venus Di Violet made it.  If you look at all of the fashion blogs out there and all of the beauty blogs, you will see vintage is huge right now and with vintage clothing comes vintage hair and vintage nails and for vintage nails you need colors that can accent and become vintage and that is exactly what OPI Venus Di Violet is and does.  Not only does it help to make french manicures vintage by being the top color, but it matches hippy clothing and hair, it matches sock hop colors, it works well for antique painted flowers and other designs and can even be worn as a vintage color for a modern twist on a bob or flapper girl style.  OPI Venus Di Violet made a comeback and snuck its way to the top of the list as the best fall nail polish color for 2009 and after really thinking about everything going on with fashion…it actually does make send that OPI Venus Di Violet could actually be the top color for fall 2009.

I love this list and if you want to have nails that are not only fashionable and in season, then you need to look through the colors and buy them from Hair Care Discounters by clicking on the links to the left of the post in the top ten best nail polish colors for fall.

It’s all about the nails. Nail art has taken a new level.

  • Posted on September 3, 2009 at 4:48 am

Today I was looking around the web at different nail sites and nail art sites and I found some crazy things people are doing with their nails and some pretty amazing designs that they are creating.  One of my favorite designs was by Jamie at Nail Art Tuesday.

Not only is she an extremely talented artist, but she also uses soo many things like gold bullion balls in her designs and really takes nail art to the next level.  I think my favorite designs have to be her Porcelain Roses nail polish design and in second is the tuxedo nails in her blog header.

The next blog I found was this really cool and crazy asian nail art blog where they are using soo many non traditional materials like sequins type of shiney mirrors and really cool looking confetti to create disco ball nails eliminating the need for glitter and taking rhinestone looks to a new level.  Now, this blog is written in a language I don’t speak so I cannot tell what you may read on there, but the nail art is amazing and the designs that they are coming up with by combining non traditional materials with regular nail polishes like OPI Nail Polish to create these cool, modern and fun designs.  I also love how everything on the site is sparkling like their nails and nail art designs.

People are getting really creative with their nails this year and I cannot wait to see what happens with New Years and holiday nails.  If you have some crazy nail art or even just want to share a picture of your nails or hair with our readers and customers, send an email to ariemer (at) haircarediscounters (dot) com and either Adam or Heather will put them up on the blog for you.

OPI Espana, The Hottest Fall Nail Polish Colors for 2009

  • Posted on September 1, 2009 at 8:11 pm

So I know I already posted about the hottest new line from OPI (this is actually my favorite to date now, I love it even more than colorcopia and 90210) and some of these colors are soo rich and amazing and absolutely perfect for fall. OPI Espana stands out for me for a few reasons,

  1. The colors are all rich and thick making them just stand out and work for their own base colors and for combines color designs and painting.
  2. There are a ton of gem tones in the nail polish color line.
  3. They brought back and improved on soo many of the classic colors that made them famous, and created a few new colors to add (I hope the green makes it to the Classics collection).
  4. There is a huge color option for almost every skn tone and outfit in the OPI Espana line.
  5. The colors just scream to me that they are the perfect set to do anything with and be able to create any design with.

I love the OPI Espana Line and for this post I wanted to share some of the best Pinks from the collection as well as a beige and of course my favorite color from OPI Espana, the Green Here today Aragon tomorrow.

OPI Espana Ate Berries in the Canaries

OPI Espana Ate Berries in the Canaries

OPI Espana Ate Berries in the Canaries.

This is one of my favorite colors from the OPI Fall Espana Collection.  It is an amazing gen toned berry color that has gorgeous purple tints to it along with some pink colors.  It matches fall perfectly and all autumn colors.

This color goes great with formal wear and for afternoons that will turn into evenings.  It is also a fun color that will go with cards night with the girls or even for cocktails and fun.

Although I normally don’t like the purples for everyday colors, this one works in that it is shiny and fun yet can be worn for formal wear and clothes that scream out like ball gowns and sequins.

OPI Ate Berries in the Canaries is one of the hottest colors in the Espana Colleccion and is a definite must have.

OPI Pink Famenco

OPI Pink Famenco

OPI Pink Flamenco.

OPI Pink Flamenco is fabulous, it is a flamingo colored pink, I know creative for the people who come up with the nail polish color names for OPI, actually it is kind of cute, and it an awesome color for fun and casual wear.  It could also be used to create designs and details on other color with an airbrush or design.

I love the pink in this nail polish and it would look great for fun wear while picking pumpkins in October or baking with your family this fall with casual wear.  This is also an amazing color to use as a base or a blend for fall vacation nail designs.

Use it as the base for tropical designs with palm trees as it is a great pink that screams take me to the beach or as flowers ad petals for late summer early autumn designs.

OPI Pink Flamenco is a fun and casual wear color that can be used hundreds of ways and if you are fun and need a versatile color for casual wear and every days colors, OPI Pink Flamenco could be the perfect pink for your fall nail polish collection.

OPI Malaga Wine

OPI Malaga Wine

OPI Malaga Wine.

When I was in college I actually moved to spain and lived in Madrid for a semester to learn how to speak spanish and also learn their culture and more importantly get to see their country and culture.  However, there is only soo much studying you can do when you’re in college and living in Europe when there are soo many amazing places to visit in a country like Spain.

Malaga is in the Southern Part of Spain and is a tropical feeling beach town that is famous for its beauty and nightlife.  Much like Ibiza off the coast of Spain, Malaga attracts college students, families and other people who are looking for a spring break yet classy type of vacation and one of the most popular things to do is to sit in the main square and drink Sangria which is a wine based fruity drink that the Spaniards love.

OPI Malaga Wine completely captures the look and feeling of sitting in Malaga and enjoying wine in the square while people watching and all of the excitment building up about the amazing night you are about to have in one of their discos or even the great beach food and 5 star restaraunts you are going to eat at with your family and friends.  This is the perfect color for all occasions and especially for a fun night or evening with family or friends and one nail polish color that you need to have for all seasons in your nail polish collection.  You have to try OPI Malaga Wine.

OPI Here Today Aragon Tomorrow

OPI Here Today Aragon Tomorrow

OPI Here Today Aragon Tomorrow.

Ok, this name is cute as hell.  Aragon is located in the Northeast Part of Spain and every weekend while I was studying abroad everyone would split and head to different cities that they would want to visit (I was living in Madrid in Central Spain so it was easy to get anywhere and only in a few hours).  That is why this name is fun, we would be in class on Friday during the Day in Madrid and the next day you’d get a call on your cell phone that someone is in Aragon tomorrow,,,,well more likely in Barcelona or another Major city but still this name is funny because that is what it was like.

OPI Here today Aragon Tomorrow is a dark rich green color that works great for a base color for daytime and nighttime wear.  It can be used to accent designs and also work to be the featured color over other shades of OPI Nail Polish like beige or even the Purple Ate Berries above.

This is by far my favorite color from the OPI Espana Colleccion and if you buy it you will find out why this color is soo versatile and you’ll bring it into your Nail Salon or Spa to make sure that you Stylist is using the proper green to work your nails for the Fall season and make sure that you have the best looking color available.

OPI Barefoot in Barcelona

OPI Barefoot in Barcelona

OPI Barefoot in Barcelona.

OPI Barefoot in Barcelona is one of the neutral colors in the Espana Colleccion.  It goes great with virtually all skin tones and makes the perfect accent for fall manicures and pedicures,,,especially the french manicure which has made a serious comeback for fall and weddings.

This is also a great color for a classy nail design and for accenting and basing your wedding nails off of.  Combine it with white in large swirls and gold glitter streaks or even use it with greens and purples or reds, it will look great across the board.  This is one of those colors that if you find a nail polish color that you love but it just doesn’t look right with anything or you can’t get it to match your outfit or skin, put OPI Barefoot in Barcelona into the nail design and it should help your favorite color to blend in and match whatever you are wearing or trying to match to your skin.

I love this color because of how versatile it is and if you need a color that can pull everything together and give you a perfect outfit, this color is the perfect option for everyone.   I love OPI Barefoot in Barcelona and think that not only should everyone have it, but they should give it a try with other colors and blend it in with their designs to pull together a fall jacket with an autumn gown or clothing.  This is one of those must have fall colors that you will seriously miss out on if you don’t buy it.  Give it a try with your favorite colors and watch how it makes your nails work with your skin and your outfit.

I love the OPI Espana Colleccion and think everyone should try it.  If you want to try the OPI Fall Nail Polish Colors, visit us by clicking any of the pictures or links above and you’ll be taken to our OPI Nail Polish section and find all of the OPI Espana Colleccion Colors On Sale.

Are rhinestone nails coming back for early fall?

  • Posted on August 31, 2009 at 9:11 pm

More and more I am seeing rhinestones popping up on peoples nails right now.  Although I think rhinestones need to be limited in designs and should never or almost never be on every nail, just like over doing it with glitter because it can clutter your nails and make them look like trash, they are picking up in popularity and I am starting to like them.

I saw a bride yesterday while walking and I did get to glimpse her hair and nails because she was talking and taking a smoke break with some friends outside of the church and loved the design she had, I wish I would have asked for a picture, but she had a thin coat of a color similar to alpine snow from OPI and she had these gorgeous thin painted gold glitter streaks in swirls on the base of her nails and they looked fabulous.  What I liked most though was the tiny rhinestone that all of the lines started from and the swirls were so random but beautiful that it just worked.

stained glass nails with rhinestones

stained glass nails with rhinestones

Then when I went to the grocery store the other night, again the girl at the checkout had her nails done (my iphone actually did not do these nails justice, they kind of looked like stained glass in person but do not look even half as good in a picture taken with my iphone so I apologize the the checkout girl ahead of time) and again, she did rhinestones the right way, in moderation.

You’ll see the rhinestones on her thumbnails mixed into the design to give it that cool looking 3d effect while still not overpowering the other colors or standing out too much.  Her nail artist made it so that the rhinestones worked with the design and not against it.

Now, rhinestones aren’t always bad if they stand out, but if they are going to stand out, make it because they were supposed to be the focus of the design and not because you just wanted rhinestones on your nails.

I love the colors on these nails and if you would have gotten to see what they actually looked like in person, trust me, they were much prettier than what you are seeing from this picture with my iphone.

Thank you again to the cashier for letting me take the picture of your nails and if you are using rhinestones, use them like she did, to work with you design and make your nails look better, not to make them look like a kids arts and cradfts project.

If you have a nail design you would like us to feature, or just like your nails and want to share them with our readers, please email the pictures to ariemer (at) haircarediscounters (dot) com.
