candy corn nail designs for the fall

  • Posted on October 13, 2009 at 5:51 pm

Ok, so a really easy to do design for your nails for the fall which works through thanksgiving is perfect for both adults and kids.  It is candy corn nails and the best part is, you don’t even have to be good with painting to do them.  There are a few different designs you can do for candycorn nails and each one gets a little more difficult but at the same time, all of these are seriously easy to do and are great designs for the fall holidays.

Candy Corn Nail Design 1.

Take a piece of paper that is sticky on one side like a sticker or name tag or even just labels for your office.  Cut them into three long strips that cover one third of your nail.

Then paint your nails completely white.

now, when the white nail polish dries, take one of the strips and lay it across the middle of your nail and do this on each nail.

Then take the orange nail polish and paint a stripe across the bottom of your nail.

Then take the yellow and paint a stripe across the top.

You can also do the base yellow and do white at the top and orange at the bottom so you get three even sections on your nails which now look like candy corn.  Candy corn nails are seriously easy to do.

Candy Corn Nails design number 2.

Take the sticker paper or labels and cut them into squares or shapes that cover your entire nail.  Then cut out a small triangle with a rounded top on them or use a hole puncher shaped like candy corn. Then cut a very long strip and make sure it covers 1/3 of the hole that you cut out shaped like candy corn.

Then paint your nail a dark brown color or any other dark fall nail polish color or even some lighter colors.

Now, place the candy corn shaped pattern over your nails.

Now, paint the entire candy corn shape white.

Now, when that dries, place the thin strip across the middle of the pattern and then panint the orange and yellow nail polish across the top and the bottom of the pattern to make the candy corn shape.

When it dries, remove the patterns and you now have candy corn shapes and colors on your nails.

Candy Corn Nail designs are fun for everyone and a really fun design for fall.   They are also easy to do and fun for you to do with your family.  Something you could also do is paint candy corn nails on most of your fingers and then make one a big candy corn nail design with the others being design number 2.  I love this design and think that you will too if you want a really fun nail polish design for the fall holidays.  You can also buy all of these colors and more here at Hair Care Discounters on sale.

OPI Black Onyx – Black Nail Polish on Sale

OPI Black Onyx

OPI Black Onyx

So it seems weird that a professional Nail Polish, not costume polish, company would produce a black nail polish, however if you think about it it actually makes complete sense as to why they produce it, why it made the classics collection and that you actually may be wearing black nail polish and not even thinking about it.   Also, why would I be bringing up a black nail polish,,,,which is what I know my bosses are going to be asking when they see that I put in OPI Black Onyx as the recommended Nail Product of the day.  So lets start with why I am putting this one in this post for a Featured Product Fridays post.

Simple, Its September 18th and everyone at happy hour last night was talking about Halloween and so I have Halloween on the brain right now.  Not to mention all of the grocery stores, convenience stores and gas stations have their Halloween merchandise and candy out, so I wanted to recommend a nail polish that Goths wear on a regular basis and tons of people dressing up in costumes wear each year on Halloween.  OPI Black Onyx is a perfect color for Halloween since it is black and can go with just about any scary or even some non scary and some sexy costumes like Elvira, Witches, Zombies and more.

Sooo, anyways, lets get to some of the real questions about OPI Black Onyx and OPI producing a black nail polish for the mass market and not just on special holidays.

Most people and salons don’t actually use black nail polish to do a coating and covering of your nail and leave it black.  Instead they use it when painting designs for dark accents or for creating formal wear colors and accents onto your nails.  It can be used in airbrushing to separate colors and shapes from eachother and the black nail polish also works as borders and perfect for creating definition and design on your nails.  If you look at a lot of designs you see tons of colors and shapes, but if you also look closely at the very expensive and detailed nail art and nail designs, you see that the shapes and colors pop more and the reason why is that the nail stylist uses a dark color to accent or highlight the brighter color that they want to stand out and what better as a regular dark color when the design is already dark than black.  Black nail polish is also perfect for kids nail art when you need to outline flower petals or even simple shapes.  If you get your nails done or are having a design painted on, watch and see and you’ll notice your stylist using dark colors and possibly even black nail polish like OPI Black Onyx on your nails too….if you look closely you might even be wearing it right now.

Because of how versatile black nail polish is, how many salons and stylists swear by it and because the classics collection only takes the best sellers, OPI Black Onyx made it from its normal collection to the classics collection easy as everyone needs a dark color to highlight and accent their designs, or even use as a color in the design and because people who like to wear black nail polish regularly  needed one that is easy to coat and put on and actually lasts for a long time, and costume shop quality just doesn’t hold up to that.   This really is a cool color to try and to use with designs and painting.

Anyway, I love OPI Black Onyx and it is on sale here at Hair Care Discounters, so buy it today and get well before Halloween so you can not only get to have fun painting your nails or bringing it to your salon so they can do it, but also wear it for Halloween for your costume.

Can you believe the summer is over? Time for Fall and Halloween Hair

  • Posted on September 9, 2009 at 2:31 am

I can’t believe that fall is already here and that the Summer is officially over.  I hate letting the summer go but when I think about all of the fall holidays like Halloween and Thanksgiving it really starts to pick you back up.  Now, even if you are opposed to Halloween, you still have to admit, free candy is awesome and everyone loves a costume party, so even if you don’t want to call it a Halloween party, you can still have a Masquerade ball or a themed Fall Season Party and still get to have fun with all of your friends and family and a fantastic get together.

One of the things that people like most about the Halloween season is the costumes.  You get to become someone else for the night whether it is a cool person from the 50s in a poodle skirt and a leather coat or letter jacket, or a robot or spaceman from the future.  You could be a mysterious monster that doesn’t really exist like a Vampire or a bride of Frankenstein or even a swamp monster or werewolf or something sweet like an Angel or a Princess or if you like sports an Athlete or if you really want to get creative, you can buy some seriously high tech costumes to make you look like you’re a 500 lb Sumo Wrestler or even a zombie who is bleeding with skin peeling off and have come back from the dead….that may take a Hollywood special effects person or a special effects College Student to pull off..but can be fun and easy if you have fake skin and oatmeal.  (We actually did this in College because one of our friends was going to school for Makeup and Special Effects…it looked awesome but I cannot find the pictures to share with you :-( ).

And one thing that people never quite get when they are creating their costume and look is their hair.  Usually you can have the perfect costume, and makeup but there is always something missing and usually you don’t think about it but it ends up being your hair.  Unless you are wearing a mask…wigs don’t count as they can be styled and sometimes need product to hold them in place, your hair is what can take your costume from looking great to looking absolutely amazing.  Sure your nails and makeup are great accessories,,,but something everyone notices and remembers a character or person by is their hair.

Think about it…you always remember a vampire by his slicked back dark shiney hair or even blond or a country girl by big pigtails or big heavy volume hair.  You think of messy and tangled when you hear of a werewolf changing back or a zombie and think about famous characters like Morticia Addams with her gorgeous long shiny black hair or Peg Bundy with her big red Bouffant.

Its something soo small that even if you have the perfect costume and the perfect makeup can throw you off, so what I wanted to do was to give you a few quick general styling tips to help you not only have perfect hair and let it be versatile enough to match a number of costumes…I’ll put some costumes a head of the basic style and then talk about the basic styling then you can shape it and form it to match.  We’ll start with Womens Halloween Hair and then Do Mens.

Womens Halloween Hairstyles:

Morticia Addams, Witches, Cher, Pony Tails, PigTails, 50’s Sock Hop Hair, other Straight Styles.

Start by using a hairbrush and brushing through your hair.

Then, take a flat iron or straightening iron to straighten your hair.  Try to use an iron with either titanium or ceramic plates so that you can style your hair easier and get one that heats up to around 450 degrees for quicker styling.

Now that your hair is straight or wavy (if you rotated your flat iron at 180 degree angles while moving from head to tip) you should use something like MoroccanOil Oil Treatment to give it that shiny look like Morticia or the shiny hair your see in Hair TV Commercials.

Now your hair is ready to be pulled back into a pony tail for 50s sock hops or parted down the middle and split for pigtails or even just left long and shiny for witches and 60s or 70s hair.

Movie Star, Country Singer, Burlesque Dancer, CowGirl, Gypsy, and other Curly Hair Styles.

The first thing to do is wash your hair.

Now, heat up your hair setters and rollers and set your hair so it falls into curls.

Then take a Curling Iron and style your hair into the right length of curls and the right tightness so that they take the exact shape you want them and so that you can reinforce the hold.

Now, use a high volume mousse to give you volume, lift and hold your hair and style all night.  Then throw in some MoroccanOil to give your hair the hollywood shine and life that your costume needs.

Now, when you finish with the style, use a hairspray like Sebastian Pro Shaper Plus to hold your style and let it also be restyled and worked and hold up to humidity.

Flapper Girls, Modern Girl, Beatnicks, 50s 60s and 70s Moms, Gangster Women, 1920s Girls, and Other Bob Styles.

This is one of my favorite hair styles….for Halloween and regular wear.

Take your Curling Iron or Flat Iron (if you are using hair rollers or setters first) and straighten your hair but flip the bottom in or out.

Now, take Mousse or something that can hold and let your hair bounce and move and run it through your hair to hold it in place but let it have life.

Now take your MoroccanOil to make your hair look healthy and shine if you want it to look amazing and healthy, then take a hairspray that allows for movement and use it to hold your hair in place.

Mens Halloween Hairstyles.

Zombies, Werewolfs, and other messy hairstyles for Halloween for Men.

The nice thing about these hair styles is that they are easy to do and there is no waiting time for them to dry.  All you need to do is take a product like a Hair Wax or a Hair Clay, get one with fibers in it, that allows you to shape and hold hair, but leave it looking messy and natural and not like a product is in it.

Keep your hair dry, Then take the hair wax or clay and rub it around in your hands…then run it through your hair and mess it up until it looks just about right.  You can then also use fake blood or gore in it to really add a gross Halloween Effect.  Just make sure to dry it before you put on clothes or leave the bathroom because you don’t want fake blood and gore running through your house.

Vampires, Ghouls, 50s popular guys, and other slicked back hair styles.

The first step is to wet your hair down.

Now you towel dry your hair and get some hair gel.  Rub the hair gel through your palms and run your hands straight back on your hair until it lays completely backwards and make sure it is still damp.

Now, take a hair grease or oil and run it through your hair as well to give it some extra greasy looks and then take an extra firm holding hairspray and lock it into place with a hairdryer.  Then accent it with a black hair comb or with makeup to make it look like the monster or character that you are going for.

Anyways, Halloween Hairstyles are easy to style once you get the basic style done.  By following the simple steps in this post you should be able to create the basic style for your hair then work with it and have fun with it and your hair will not only look fantastic, but your costume will definitely look even better and when you enter the Halloween Contest, consider yourself a step closer to winning.

Halloween Nails Part 3. Kids Halloween Nails

  • Posted on August 4, 2009 at 11:51 pm

So to wrap up Halloween nails for this year, I figured why not create a few styles of nails for kids since we did Men’s and Women’s nails for Vampires, Zombies, Witches and more.  Now, when thinking about how to do kids nails I came up with a few styles, however you may need a couple of different things to create these designs. (Unless you are not artistically challenged like me lol).

I was walking through a crafts shop (You can also find these at stores like Target and Wallmart, probably CVS or RiteAid as well) and I found these fabulous hole punchers that you can use to not only punch shaped holes and use the pieces for confetti and to use as a decoration on a table for buffets, etc… but I thought, why not use these to shape nail designs, especially since the holes are small enough to fit on a kids nail.  It was seriously perfect, especially when I found a cat one, a pumpkin and a ghost hole punch.  Then I was like, ok it is seriously time to get creative because there are soo many opportunities to create fun designs and nails for halloween.  Anyways, here is what my thoughts are and some great ideas that you can use to help your kids have fabulous and fun nails for halloween.

What you will need to create Halloween nails for kids:

  • Fun Halloween Shaped Hole Punches – You can also print or draw shapes then cut them out of the paper or cardstock if you cannot find the shaped you want.
  • Nail Polish – OPI Nail Polish Colors listed Below
  • Glitter – If you really want to sparkle – Gold, Green, White, Orange, Red or whatever colors you want.
  • Googley Eyes – For goblin nails.

Ok, so lets start with the Nail Polish colors:

OPI Alpine Snow

OPI Alpine Snow

OPI Atomic Orange

OPI Atomic Orange

OPI Black Onyx

OPI Black Onyx

OPI Birthday Babe

OPI Birthday Babe

OPI Green-wich Village

OPI Green-wich Village

Ok, So lets start with the different nails and styles and types, I’m going to start with a couple of ideas that I thought of for Kids Halloween Nails and then you can easily take these ideas and start to generate your own for making some really cool and creative halloween nails for kids.

Ghost Nails:

Style 1. Take the Alpine Snow nail polish and simply paint your nails white, you could also use the silverish Birthday Babe nail polish if you want a little extra something to your ghost nails, or if you are doing grey instead of white.  Simple easy and your kids are on their way.

Style 2. Take the Black Onyx Nail polish from OPI and coat the entire nail in the Black Nail Polish.  Then take a piece of paper and use your ghost hole puncher to punch a hole in the paper.  (You can use a ghost shape from the internet and cut it out as well if you don’t have a hole puncher).  You may want to use something like cardstock if you are going to use this sheet more than once as paper is fairly flimsy and can rip or wreck.

Now, take the paper and lay the hole over the nail, hold it in place very carefully and in one swipe take the white Alpine Snow or Silver Birthday Babe Nail Polish and cover the hole.  Now, carefully pick the paper straight up and you’ll find a silver or white ghost perfectly placed on your trick or treaters nails so they are ready to go out and scare the neighbors. If you have a steady hand, once the white or silver nail polish dries, you can also put two little black dots for eyes and even a circle for a mouth, but remember, you have to have a very steady hand as these are very small spaces.

Style 3.  Now here is a really cool looking ghost nail for the diva ghost daughter.  Do exactly what you did in Ghost Style number 2, except instead of using white or silver nail polish, paint on some easy to remove glue and then pour glitter over the hole.  This will create a sparkling white or silver or colored ghost that will not only shine, but also give an awesome effect  and your little one will love showing her sparkle nails off to all of her friends.

Pumpkin Nails:

For pumpkin nails, I thought of two styles.

Style 1 and 2. Cover your nail in a base color of your choosing, then simply follow style two and three from above in the ghost nails with the hole punches to put pumpkin cut outs and designs on your nails.

Style 3. I love this but it takes some time and you need a steady hand.  First take the Atomic Orange Nail Polish from OPI and cover your nails.  Then carefully take Green-Which Village or Call My Cellery from OPI and paint a trunk onto each tip of each nail.  Then, use a yellow or brown polish to paint lines in curves facing outward from the center of your nails to replicate a pumpkins lines down your nails.  At the top of your nail, use Black Onyx to paint the curved ridges of the pumpkin top and the lines going in to and outlineing the pumpkin stem so that you now have ten pumpkins for finger nails and a fabulously festive look.

Goblin Nails:

One halloween monster that most kids either love or are scared of are the monsters, goblins, ghouls and other names for general monsters.  They have warts, eyes, claws and tons of other scary features that are undescribable.  So for this costume you can get seriously creative.  One idea I had for this amorphous creature is to cover your nails in all black nail polish like Black Onyx from OPI or all white like with OPI Alpine Snow.  Then take easy to remove glue and put on googly eyes which you can find at the craft store.  Then use that same glue which should also be safe for skin and start applying those same eyes, except use multiple sizes and line your kids fingers in random shapes and places so that they have eyes all over their hands.  If your kid wants warts on their finger nails, you can also apply a second layes of nail polish over the eye and if you have the time, you can even use a large nail to cover like a wart then apply another smaller googly eye on top of it so that your wart has an eye.

Halloween is a seriously fun holiday that you can use soo much creativity for.  Have fun with your halloween nails and your costume will certainly look a lot better when you have the nails to match.

Halloween Nails Part 2 – How to do Witches Nails for Adults and Kids

  • Posted on July 29, 2009 at 8:36 pm

So part two of the How to do Nails for Halloween, or Halloween Nails is all about one of my personal favorite Halloween Characters, the Witch.

There are thousands of types of witches out there for halloween from the Sexy Witch to the Gothic Witch and even classic movie withches like the Wicked Witch of the West or Elphaba, You have some characters that people know as witches like Elvira and even evil witches like the witches from Hocus Pocus or Cher in the Witches of Eastwick.  You have male witches or Wizards like Harry Potter and Merlin and all of these characters have unique nails and nail sets.

If you were going to do Harry Potter or any of their characters, both mail and female and are doing the kids, you may want to leave the nails plain or just use a simple clear coat of clear nail polish.  If you are doing the grown up characters, natural nails and nail designs will work for you since they play themselves off as humans in the real world.  Just remember to stay in Character and have your nails and hair done to match the character.  If you wanted to get creative with characters like Professor Snape, you could always try Black Nail Polish like the Black Onyx from OPI, but then again, that could be pushing it.  Just remember that Harry Potter nails have to look perfect since everyone looks at them when you are holding your want to cast a spell.

So anyways, the most important thing about creating your character and your nails and hair for the character for Halloween is to stay with the character.  Use long pointed nails for wicked witches, use long curved nails for sexy or temptress witches and for the gory grotesque, you may want to try huge curved and bent up or long nails and paint them green with colors like OPI Call My Cell-ery, A puss colored green like OPI Gargantuan Grape, or even a deep green nail polish like OPI Green Wich Village.

Now onto some classic styles that work well across the board for most witches nails for halloween on both adults and children.

Witch Nails style 1:

OPI Call My CellEry

OPI Call My CellEry

OPI Purple With A Purpose

OPI Purple With A Purpose

OPI Black Onyx Black Nail Polish

OPI Black Onyx Black Nail Polish

I like to take the classic french Manicure and give it a twist.  If you are a fun or regular witch or just a witch in general with no theme, Use the french manicure but take the base color below the tip and use a green like OPI’s Green Wich Village or a Purple like the OPI Purple with a Purpose Purple Nail Polish and cover the tip of the nail with the OPI Black Onyx Nail Polish.  All of these colors are available here at HaircareDiscounters.com as well.  You can also reverse the colors so that you have black nail polish as the base and the colors as the top of the french manicure.

Now, one thing that I also like to recommend when doing this style is that if you have a color like red or blue in your costume and it is prodominent, use the color from OPI that matches that color of your costume so that the manicure also matches your costume.  Normally in fashion you avoid doing this to go to an event (Not runway or show) but since it is Halloween nails we are going after, this is completely acceptable.

Halloween Witch Nails Style 2.

Style number two is for evil and sexy witch, because lets face it, even evil queens from Snow White and the Ladies from Hocus Pocus wanted to look good and sexy for their victims and their partners.  So for these nails I like to do solid colors that are rich and deep and depending on the costume, sometimes even a solid black.

For the shape of your nail for the sexy and evil witch, use longer extensions (but not too to long) and either round the top or file them into a point, but watch your eyes as you may poke yourself through the evening.  Use a deep rich and sexy color like OPI Black Cherry Chutney or OPI an Affair in Red Square or even  OPI My Private Jet.

Halloween Witch Style 3.

This is for the gross or gruesome or even just the witch that wants to stand out.  Use flashy odd colors like Green, Yellow, Cream or other solids that would normally look crazy with most nails.  Use long nails and if you want don’t be afriad to break them.  Breaking the nails actually adds to the effect and hey, if you have an old torn up witch, chances are her huge nails are also broken up and not perfectly done.

Halloween Witch Nails Style 4.

This is for the modern witch.  What I love to do with modern is a very simple and easy to do nail, however it is a bit more time consuming and can take you a good 20 minutes to complete.  First, take masking tape and cover half of each nail going long ways up and down or horizontal.  Then, take one solid stand out color or solid dark color and paint half the nail.  Then, when that dries, remove the tape and cover the other half of your nail that you just painted and do the other side.  It is simple and really looks cool when you are dancing or getting a drink and moving your hands fast.   Your nails will look like an exhibit from MOMA in NYC and people will be wondering where you got the idea from all night….don’t be afraid to send them here either ;-) .

Halloween Witch Nails Style 5.

This is just a fun idea to use and do.  If you are going to a party with black lights or has a cool lighting system.  Do some sort of asymetric modern design, or even a french manicure and use a glow in the dark or a solid white nail polish like OPI Funny Bunny on your nails so that when the lights go crazy, so do your nails and you can easily start to cast your spell on that Man across the room and bring him in.

Anyways, Halloween nails can be fun and easy and really help you make your wicth costume even more fabulous.  Don’t be afraid to get creative, but also don’t forget to stay in character and you’ll be bespelling your crowd in no time at all.

How to do Perfect Nails and Hair for Halloween Part 1.

  • Posted on July 21, 2009 at 6:51 pm

So this is the first post in a series of posts on how to do your nails for Halloween. Now, some of you may be saying, why are you posting about Halloween when it is only late July? My answer is simple, all the stores are starting to prep for Halloween and people are starting to think about what costumes they would like to wear, so in this series of posts, I will walk you through how to do your nails and in some examples, hair to properly match any main stream costume and then take your costume, hair and nails to the next level. We’ll also do this using OPI Nail Polish colors and products that you can find at HaircareDiscounters.com.

The first two goulishy get ups we will start with are the Zombie and the Vampire or Vampiress.

To create Zombie nails is fun and easy.  We need to start with thinking what a zombie is and where they may be crawling out of the ground from.  For example, if your zombie is from a snowy area, there may be snow and dirt mixed into their nails and they could have some chips since they had to fight through frozen ground, while zombies in New Orleans may only have to stand up since the ground is wet and easy to get through.  Zombies are also flesh eaters or brain eaters (depending on which movie you watched) so you can also incorporate this into your nails and start to really get this costume going.

So anyways, onto the first set of hair and nails, snow zombie nails.

Zombie Nails

Frozen Zombies

Snow zombies are frozen so I like to use a lot of whites and blues.  Here are a few nail colors that I love for this.

OPI Alpine Snow White Nail Polish

OPI Alpine Snow White Nail Polish

OPI Give Me The Moon

OPI Give Me The Moon

OPI Sahara Saphire

OPI Sahara Saphire

Now these three colors are ideal for a Zombie who has been in frozen ground but decided to come back and make himself or herself known. They all have icey traits and almost look frozen when they are placed together.

Now, here are a few zombie nails you can do using these colors.

1.  Simple french manicures with silver on bottom and either other color on top. This is perfect for a high end recently dead zombie lady, and your nails still look fab.

2.  You can take either the silver polish or the blue polish and make a solid base coat of them.  Both of these are frozen colors so they work great for a frozen zombie.  Then, take the other two shades of nail polish and drizzle them over your nails in sloppy thin and slightly thick lines so that the nail polish does not lay flat, but is actually raised into runny drops.  This gives an effect that you are freshly awakened and ready to hunt for flesh.  Fun, I know.

3.  This is the most fun of the zombies, the fully dead, long since gone, ready to riot in a feeding frenzy zombie.  There are two options here.   1.  First use style number two above.  Then take a blood read nail polish (You’ll see my recommendations below in the vampire section) and paint the tops of your nails and parts of your finger tips with it so it looks like you have been already feasting.   I like nail polish for this since it will last all night.   The other option for this gore gauging ghoul is to first apply fake nail tips and chip the tops of them.  Then hang a little bit of fake flesh or even oatmeal and apply it with body glue from a costume shop.  Then paint it green or silver with red speckles so that it looks like little bits of flesh stuck to your nails and over design two, you are now a fresh zombie out of the ground who is on the hunt for food.  Gross…huh?  I know, but think of how fabulous your nails will look and match your costume.

Now for the non frozen zombies.

OPI Black Onyx

OPI Black Onyx

OPI Call My CellEry

OPI Call My CellEry

OPI Black Cherry Chutney

OPI Black Cherry Chutney

These are some of my favorite colors to work with for a classy event, and hey, they are even more my favorites when I get to dress them up for Halloween.

So basically, you can do any of the above with the focus on the OPI Call My Cellery green nail polish being the focus since it is a gory green for Halloween and can be great for Witches nails too.   Soo, here are some ideas.

1.  Simple French Manicures with no extensions or tips, unless you chip the nails ahead of time to make it look like they were rampaging.

2.  Use the Black Cherry Chutney nail polish color as a base coat.  Drizzle thin liquid lines of green and black over it and paint your cuticles and the sides of your skin with the black for effect so that it now looks like green gore pouring off of your nails and the black just makes your nails look dead.

3.  If you really want to take the last style to the next level, then add on extensions before hand and chip them.  Then just like the snow zombie, use a skin friendly glue to glue fake pieces of painted flesh to your nails and they will all of the sudden look like the nails of your character who is a flesh hungry hunter in the night.

Now, for Zombie hair, remember, these guys are long since dead and gone.  If you decide not to use a wig, then all you really need to do is mess up your hair and find a product that will hold.  I highly recommend using for men’s hair, any of the fibers or waxes from American Crew because they allow your the flexibility to put clumps of hair together in whatever size you want, and they’ll hold them in place all night long.  You could always use a hairspray like RUSK to hold it in place all night as well after if you would like.

For women, I recommend first brushing your hair out but keep it fluffy and bunchy towards the bottom.  Then take leaves, white styrofoam crumbles or what not and mix them into your hair.  Then put in a spray of Sebastian Hair Sprays to hold them in place.  Then begin messing up your hair a bit and put random thick strands of hair leaning up every which way and cross them over eachother so your hair is a mess.  If you want to take it to the next level, you can even add in fake spiders and bugs to the mix, then when all of it is all messed up again, use another heavy coat of Sebastian Spray and you should be set to go for the night.  (On a side note, if you want thicker wet looking clumps in your hair, wet your hair down then use any get in the wet hair to hold it together, then begin adding in extras and shaping the hair once it is dry.  This extra step done before hand really adds to the look, but does take extra time.)

Now time for the Vampires and Vampiresses.

This could be sexy or seductive so instead of breaking it out like we did for zombies above, I’m going to do men’s and womens.

OPI Got the Blues for Red

OPI Got the Blues for Red

Men’s vampire nails.

1.  Male vampires are sexy and seductive, until they feed.  So, for the sexy seductive one, all you need to do is shape your nails and clean them, then use a clear nail polish on the top of them to just have a clean and clear look that is sophisticated and sexy.

2. Now, if you want to go into the scarrier type, put on nail extensions and file them into points at the top, then use the clear coat over them.  If you want something extra on it, use the OPI Black Onyx nail polish we recommended above.

3.  If you want to have scary nails for a vampire that is ready to feed, take the black nails from above and take the OPI Got the Blues for Red color for blood on them.  You have two options for them, for the scary vampire attack, take the brush and flick it at your nails so you get blood spackles on them.  For the sexy seductive blood feeding, take a small drop of the red nail polish and put it at the top of the nail and let it run down your nails so that it looks like blood poured down your nail.  Now, since this color stays liquid looking when done right, leave it run down naturally and let it run down your fingers if it does, you were just feeding on someones neck and hey, the blood would pour and get your fingers messy so why not let it stay and really help the effect. The last step then is to take your clear nail polish when the blood dried and paint over the red blood so that it becomes shiney and still looks fresh.  Those are some scary nails for a vampire to wear!

Women’s vampire nails.

Now, for the womens vampire nails, you can do this easily.

1.  If you want to be sexy and seductive, just get extensions put on and make sure they are rounded to a point on the top.  Then just select a very dark red or purple polish and paint it on. The one thing to make sure you do is to only buy extensions that go straight out and do not curve down.  Now, also remember to get out of the stereotypical Black Nail Polish for women’s vampires, Female vampires are sexy, not goth so leave the black to the goths and get your nails seductive with a color like the Black Cherry Chutney or Go the Blue for Red colors.  They are sexy and seductive and won’t make you look fake.  You want real sexy and real seductive.

2.  For a scary vampiress that has just fed, I would recommend doing the same nails that I recommended for men in number 3.  Use these to not only show you have fed, but are also the queen vamp on the block so that the other vampiresses should back off your prey.

For Vampire hair for Men and Women.

Men, please get over the slicking and greasing your hair back.  Wear it straight or forward and use a gel and spray to hold it in place.  Then use a product like Sexy Hair Big Shine Spray to add that sexy wet and shiney look to your do.

If you have long hair, comb it or brush it out so that it falls nicely along side your face, or pull it back into a pony tail and use the big shine spray on it as well to add in a shine that shows that even though you may be dead, your hair is still sexy and alive.

For Women, I always love the full of life vampire hair instead of dead beat up wigs.  If you have long hair, straighten it out completely using an iron from Babyliss or CHI and get it straight and lovely.  This looks great for all hair colors.    Then use Sexy Hair’s Bg Sexy Shine Spray which you can find in the above link in the Men’s post.

The other style that is fabulous if you have long hair works amazing for blonds.  Get yourself thick rich huge wavy curls and let them hang everywhere.

If you want to really spice up your hairstyles and have long hair, you can add in some fake blood and let it pour down your hair, but make sure it dries before you leave your bathroom, otherwise you will get a mess everywhere you walk and on everything your hair touches.

Now, if you are a Women and have short hair, I love short Women’s vampire hair when you paste it or glue it to your head so it is held neat and tight against your head.  Vintage looks also work great.  You can also take your bangs or hair on the top of your head, flatten a panel of hair and then use product to make shapes and spikes out of it for that sexy and sort of in your face look.

Anyways, not to get to carried away since there are a ton more styles of nails and hair for Halloween characters and costumes, especially since I have another set of characters and costumes to do, I’ll leave this post as is and hope you all found it useful in bringing your halloween costume and character to life.
